Texas - Iowa State preview, analysis and prediction

The Iowa State Cyclones picked the worst time to go on a slide. When a team goes on a losing stretch like this, you never expect them to bounce back even at home.

It's been a tough week for Iowa State and I expect it to be even harder Saturday when it hosts the No. 21 Texas Longhorns in Ames.

Iowa State has had a mixed bag over the last four games, losing by 5 to Baylor, only 1 point to Kansas and a 4-point win at home to the red-hot Texas Tech Red Raiders. Don't even count the Oklahoma Sooners loss on Jan. 8 because that's about as low of a point as possible.

If there's a time to take Texas in this type of game, it's against a struggling Iowa State club. The Longhorns have won seven of eight and are coming off a 14-point win against Oklahoma led by a game-high 22 points from Andrew Jones.

Four starters had double figures in points with three going for 10 each, as the Longhorns continued this strong start under coach Chris Beard.

"Our terminology is you have to demand the foul," Beard said. "You are not gonna get a foul (shooting) off one foot. You are not gonna get a foul falling away from the basket. I thought we had a couple of those last game."

This is not the time for Iowa State to struggle in this series, having lost eight of 10 against the Longhorns going into Saturday. The Cyclones last won in February 2020, manhandling the Longhorns by 29 points in Ames. A lot has changed then, but the destruction from Texas has been one constant in this series.

There may come a time where I believe in Iowa State again later in the season, but it won't be now. Give me Texas in a rout. If there's a time to see where Iowa State is at, it's this game. Texas by 20
