Season Record

Titans:  2-2 (1st place, AFC South)
Jaguars:  0-4 (last place, AFC South)

The AFC South is a NFL Football division that is loaded with losers.  It feels like any matchup of these teams can produce any outcome. This is a contest between Coach Urban Meyer in charge of a team empty of firepower and protection helmed by a rookie quarterback against Coach Mike Vrabel and his band of middle of the road misfits led by the suspect Ryan Tannehill. It doesn’t feel like OCT's most exciting game, but there is a lot of money to be made on obvious picks after September has given us a blueprint to make reliable predictions.

Off Sunday's 3-0 sweep in the NFL, Rogers is now an EXTRAORDINARY 23-12 his L35 NFL Selections. Not only that but he's also a DOMINANT 5-1 since last Sunday Night. This one goes Thursday in the Rams/Seahawks HUGE DIVISIONAL GAME. Come get it!.. Browns vs Vikings Preview and Analysis

Recent Form

The Tennessee Titans aren’t lighting up the league, but they haven’t been destroyed since Week 1.  In week 1 the Titans got run out of the stadium by Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals’ early season winning machine 38-13.  In Game 2 the Titans dug deep for an overtime win against the Seattle Seahawks 33-30… they not only covered the spread they won outright on the moneyline.  In game 3 the Titans got their second win of the season off the Indianapolis Colts 25-16.  They were beginning to show the signs of a quality team… after all their only loss was to the still undefeated Cardinals.  Then came game 4… a bizarre loss to the New York Jets led by rookie quarterback Zach Wilson.  The Jets are a bad team… and these Titans lost to them in overtime 27-24.

The Jaguars are decidedly a bad team.  Their coach Urban Meyer is a constant distraction in his first season in the NFL.  Urban hired a strength and conditioning coach that was fired from the college ranks under accusations of racism… he the brought in Tim Tebow for a tryout as a tight-end… never mind Tebow had been out of the NFL for the better part of the decade and has never played tight end… then video came out of a married Urban Meyer grinding with a young woman in a bar/restaurant he owns (BTW, there is nothing wrong with that if you aren’t in his marriage, it’s just moralizing fluff for everyone else). It has all been distraction and losing.  Of course how could the Jaguars expect to win games regardless of the distractions when they are the Jaguars and are starting a rookie QB from Day 1.  Remember the Cowboys Troy Aikman went 1-15 in his rookie season and was hit so often Washington Redskins fans were praying for his safety… that was a couple years before a 3 in 4 years Super Bowl run guaranteed his Hall of Fame jacket.  The Jaguars lost game 1 to the terrible Houston Texans 37-21.  They lost game 2 to the Denver Broncos 23-13.  They lost game 3 to the exceptional Arizona Cardinals 31-19.  They lost a close one to the Cincinnati Bengals 24-21.  They are 0-4 and the scores have actually been closer than their on-field performance would indicate.

Offensive Analysis

The Tennessee Titans are scoring 23.8 points per game on 394.5 yards per game. Their offensive weapon isn’t a secret and hasn’t been for years.  Derrick Henry is an all time running back. Derrick has 510 rushing yards in 4 games and another 125 receiving yards.  WR Julio Jones came over from Atlanta in the off-season and has supplied 68 yards per game in the 3 games he has played.  Julio is one of those guys like Megatron or Larry Fitzgerald where you can’t help but wonder what would have been if he had spent his career with Aaron Rodgers or a younger Ben Rothlisberger.

The Jaguars are scoring an awful 18.5 points per game on 330.5 yards per game. Their leading Rusher is James Robinson who gets the occasional break from Carlos Hyde.  The leading receiver is Marvin Jones Jr who could be overtaken at any moment by Laviska Shenault Jr.  They are proof that Trevor Lawrence has no clear favorite target… that may be because his swiss cheese O-line has given Trevor zero time to survey all the routes on any given play.  Trevor has 873 yards passing on a 57% completion percentage for 5 Touchdowns… the problem is the 7 interceptions and 6 times he’s been sacked.

Defensive Analysis

The Tennessee Titans are giving up 27.8 points per game on 358.3 yards per game.  They lean heavily on their linebackers Rashaan Evans and Harold Landry III who have combined for 45 tackles. It isn’t necessarily a good thing for your linebackers to dominate the tackle stat… it usually means runners are getting past the line for positive yardage.  CB Janoris Jenkins is still a standout in coverage… he needs some help from the players and the coaching staff.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are giving up 28.8 points per game (10 more than they score) and 427 yards per game (100 more than they get).  LB’s Miles Jack and Damien Wilson are also combining for large tackle stats… for the same reason.  Yet S Andrew Wigard is a very positive spot for the team.  This team desperately needs a D-line.  That is most of it.  Until they have a D-line (and an O-line) we won’t know what they can be. If I was running their draft room we would trade back to stack picks and get linemen for both sides of the ball all day.

Key Injuries

Titans:  WR Josh Reynolds (knee) Questionable * G Roger Saffold (concussion) Questionable
LB Bud Dupree (knee) Questionable  *   CB Caleb Farley  (shoulder) Questionable

Jaguars:  OL AJ Cann  (MCL)  IR  *  WR DJ Chark Jr (Ankle)  Questionable

Players to Watch

Titans:  Derrick Henry.  He is going to cut through this soft Jacksonville defense and may end up with a career game.  If you can’t stop most people you won’t stop Derrick Henry.. What are we taking crazy pills?

Jacksonville:  Trevor Lawrence.  There is only one show in Jacksonville and that is rookie quarterback sensation Trevor Lawrence.  What will happen to him is he will take 2 years of solid lumps against the entire league.  Then everyone will write him off as a bust, but all those draft picks (remember line only line) will build up and if Trevor has survived the onslaught he will reclaim his name and destroy everyone who pushed him around.
