Temple vs Oklahoma Prediction

The current betting odds have Oklahoma listed as a 43 point favorite in this game according to Draftkings Sportsbook. Oklahoma was a solid team last season with their 10-3 record overall and their 7-2 conference record, but by their standards the season was a failure as they did not win the Big 12 and didn't have a chance at the National Championship either. Their first 2 seasons haven't been great under Venables but he has been fixing a lot of the problems on defense they have had over the years. Their offense struggled at times last season, but they are going to have a new quarterback starting with Jackson Arnold who is finally getting his shot this season so he will be looking to impress in this game. They were 6-0 in their home games last season and even though this isn't a game they need to worry about winning since they have a lot more talent and depth here, they still need to make a statement in this game since they are now in their 1st season in the SEC which is a much stronger conference. Temple was terrible last season with their 3-9 record overall and they failed to win a game on the road too, going 0-5 in their road games. Warner played well at times but there isn't enough talent on this team to make them a real threat here. Their defense was terrible last season, averaging 35.7 points allowed per game, and this Oklahoma offense still has a lot of talent to burn Temple with, even with their backups playing. The best way to place a bet here is on Oklahoma to cover the spread in this game.

Notable Quotes

"It was necessary. It kind of threw them off of their routine.  I thought it was critically important for us as a coaching staff to be able to acclimate these guys into that type of scenario where we changed the atmosphere, try to see how they're going to respond, and see if they can mentally get into proper space that they need to be to get ready for a game.  So in that respect it was good, it was a success that way." - Stan Drayton after his team’s final preseason scrimmage before the season starts.

“There's going to be challenges, at times, with anybody who has started one game and now they're the starter. One game under your belt, there's going to be some moments where it looks like that. We'd be negligent if I didn't say that or naïve if we didn't believe that. Those lows can't be disastrous.” - Brent Venables on his team coming into this new college football season.
