TCU vs Stanford Prediction

The current betting odds have TCU listed as a 9.5 point favorite in this game according to Draftkings Sportsbook. TCU wasn't great last season with their 5-7 record overall and they fell off a lot considering how they were in the National Championship game just 2 years ago, failing to even make it to a bowl game last year. They were 1-4 in their road games and didn't have much going for them last season, but they still had an offense that could put up points. They were averaging 31.3 points per game last season and points are definitely something they have been able to produce in Sonny Dykes' 2 years of being head coach. Their defense wasn't great but they did average less points allowed per game than points they were scoring, and this is going to be a redemption season for them after the way things went last year so look for them to make a statement in this 1st game by coming out with a strong performance. Stanford is starting their 1st season in the ACC this year, but they have struggled in the Pac-12 for years and things aren't going to be any different this season. They were terrible last season with their 3-9 record overall and they were even worse at home, going 0-7 in their home games. Their offense was only averaging 20.6 points per game and their defense was giving up a ton of points in every game, allowing 37.7 points per game. Stanford is going to be looking to improve this season but they are still lacking in talent and won't have the motivation that this TCU team has to be better. This is a big game for TCU to set the tone for the season after their embarrassment last year and they have the offense under Dykes to make this game get out of hand. The best way to place a bet here is on TCU to cover the spread in this game.

Notable Quotes

"We have to make sure that we don't rely on our players to teach that and to pass that tradition on. That's got to be something that we teach as coaches. “First game, we’ll probably play a number of guys and see how it sorts out. But for sure, the young guys are in the mix.” - Troy Taylor on his mindset coming into this season opener.
