Blues - Sharks preview and analysis

It turns out that the St. Louis Blues are, in fact, human after all. And all it took was a loss to the Boston Bruins to make it happen. But it’s not the end of the world because the Blues still got a point out of it and have plenty to play for.

Despite that 3-2 loss to the Bruins, the Blues are tied with the Minnesota Wild for second place in the Cenral Division and have a 13-game point streak rolling. They’ll look to get back on the winning track on Thursday against the masters at ending their own 10-game losing streak, the San Jose Sharks.

It’s no surprise that the Blues have turned into an offensive juggernaut behind the play of forward Robert Thomas, the man who extended his point streak to 14 games with a goal, and Pavel Buchnevich also scored for St. Louis.

"We got a big point there, which is good and in our in our fight for home ice, but you know, definitely wasn't our best effort tonight," St. Louis captain Ryan O'Reilly said. "... It just wasn't our best game, that's for sure."

Home-ice advantage in this eventual series with the Wild is going to be crucial for the Blues with the likelihood of young goalie Ville Husso getting the call. He’s suddenly taken the starting job over Cup winner Jordan Binnington, as as this ultimately makes sense.

"We've got to stay consistent," Blues coach Craig Berube said. "There's home ice on the line, there's a lot to play for."

But good news is the Sharks have remained bad despite this nine-game losing streak and continue to defy logic with how bad they’ve been. But the Sharks did get a win to snap their 10-game losing streak.

A man named Scott Reedy scored twice, and Kaapo Kahkonen actually got a win since being moved at the deadline. Things might be finally looking up for the Sharks. May everyone party like crazy!

"He's played some really really good games and we haven't been able to score for him," San Jose captain Logan Couture said of Kahkonen, who got his first win in eight games since being acquired in a trade with the Minnesota Wild on March 21. "Tonight, we got three and held on there. He made some great saves for us."

I want to go back to the create-a-player named Reedy. He is a 23-year-old who has played 29 games in his first NHL season. Good to know. He actually has five goals, which means he’ll be a top-line forward for this team next season.

"[Reedy is] a guy that works hard, he's trying to get better every day," Boughner said. "And the offensive upside that he has, I think for a team that struggles to score, you want to keep developing these guys to have a touch around the net. You saw that touch tonight."

Prediction

While the Sharks are off celebrating their Stanley Cup victory, the Blues are playing “Gloria” straight into the playoffs. The Blues need to keep winning to keep home-ice advantage going, and that would help them greatly when it comes to facing a high-octane Wild team. Blues win 5-2
