SMU is playing their season opener here on Saturday and this will also be their first road game of the college football season. They finished last season with a 8-4 record overall and were 3-3 in their road games. They were also 4-4 in their conference games and finished 6th place in the AAC. They did not end their season off with a Bowl game as they were supposed to be in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl against the Virginia Cavaliers but it was canceled due to a covid-19 outbreak. Their offense was averaging 466.8 YPG and 38.4 PPG while their defense was allowing 418.8 YPG and 28.4 PPG against them. Tanner Mordecai led the team in passing with 3,628 passing yards, Tre Siggers led the team in rushing with 727 rushing yards, and Danny Gray led the team in receiving with 803 receiving yards.

UNT is entering this game with a 1-0 record overall to start their college football season and they will be playing their 1st home game of the season here. SMU vs North Texas Prediction

The current betting odds have SMU listed as an 11 point favorite in this game according to Draftkings Sportsbook. SMU had a good season last year but they were only 8-4 and were not able to compete with the best of the best in their conference. A lot of those great players in the conference from last season are gone now though, and SMU has an opportunity to be a very dominant team this season with a lot of returning players on both sides of the ball. They have their leading rusher and starting QB returning from last season and they were scoring close to 40 points per game all year. Their defense also has a lot of returning players and they should be even better than they were last season as they continue to develop and improve. UNT had the luxury of playing last week so they are already prepared here with a game under their belt, but they did not play that great in that game as they were playing a bad UTEP team and they also had a very slow start in the game. If they have another bad 1st half here like they did last week then they will put themselves into a hole they can't get out of as SMU has a really good offense and will bury them early with scores if they cannot move the ball. SMU will be ready to take over this conference again and they are going to be hungry for a good start to the season here. The best way to place a bet here is on SMU to cover the spread in this game.
