Seahawks - Buccaneers preview, analysis and prediction

Last week
Seahawks: won 31-21 at Cardinals; won four straight
Buccaneers: won 16-13 vs. Rams

Not sure if Germany expected to get this kind of barn-burner of a game considering every other NFL international game has been hot garbage to this point (maybe with the exception of Giants-Packers), but a first place Seattle Seahawks team is coming to town to potentially put the nail in the coffin in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ season.

Who would’ve thought that the Seahawks would be in the position they’re in? Not just outright being successful at all, but leading the NFC West in comfortable fashion without Russell Wilson? The invigorated Seahawks have won four in a row and are coming off a 31-21 win in Arizona to sweep the season series against the Cardinals in the span of a month.

The dynamic duo of Smith (26 of 34, 275 yards, 2 TDs) and rookie running back Kenneth Walker III (109 yards, 2 TDs) has put a jolt in this offense that didn’t seem possible when the season began. There’s balance in the passing game, the defense is reverting back to yesteryear, and there’s a buzz for this group that can host a playoff game this year.

“Sometimes it’s good for people to not place expectations on you, to play as the underdog, and I don’t know if that’ll continue, but it’s kind of good for where we are right now,” Smith said.

It’s just a shocker to see them move on from Smith, get the capital that they did and still see the Seahawks run away with the NFC West. The Los Angeles Rams’ struggles have given them a golden ticket to get this far. Just imagine if they, on the international scale, can put away the Bucs emphatically in this one.

Tampa Bay is hanging by a thread. Sure, they’re back atop the NFC South in a tie with the Atlanta Falcons following the miraculous 16-13 win over said Rams, who we can talk about for another time in how disappointing it’s been. That win, though, did end a three-game losing streak and at least give the Bucs some form of confidence heading into the second half of the season. Tom Brady threw the ball 58 times, because that makes all the sense in the world, and the running game combined for just 51 yards on 20 carries. And people wonder why Bruce Arians was so important to this group.

“We have just not played the way we’re capable. Just some things have kind of not really fallen our way at all,” Brady said. “Hopefully we can get a win (Sunday), get to 5-5 and then the whole season is ahead of us.”

What’s going on with the Bucs is just so weird. The defense continues to play a very solid game and keeping them in it long enough. Maybe Brady just needs to get to the postseason and find a way to win there like he always has. But this can’t be a one-sided team with all this talent that Tampa Bay has. But one thing can be certain: This will not be an easy task for the Bucs. It’s almost like the Seahawks of old.

Prediction

Tampa Bay has done well defensively, but the run defense has been a bit to be desired at 125 yards per game. Seattle has gotten great production from its rookie, the top running back in college last year, and has found a great identity on offense. Walker will open things up for Smith and the Seahawks will pull off the upset. Seahawks by 7
