Week 5 of the NFL season is here and there's already so much intrigue around the league. Division races are surprisingly tight in some parts, some teams still have a chance to better their season, and some teams are surprising everyone with their level of play. Cooper Rush for MVP, anybody? But in the betting world, it was a strong week for Tom Stryker going 5-0-1 (+$5,000 net). As we progress through the one-quarter mark in the NFL season, it's a subtle reminder that anything can happen on any given time. Seahawks - Saints preview, analysis and prediction

Last week
Seahawks: won 48-45 at Lions
Saints: lost 28-25 vs. Vikings (in London)

No one said the Seattle Seahawks’ era post-Russell Wilson would be easy, but it’s certainly entertaining so far. And now we’re looking at a strong possibility that they could go to 3-2 after facing the New Orleans Saints on Sunday in the Superdome.

The Seahawks survived an offensive onslaught from the Detroit Lions, winning 48-45 in another weird episode of Seattle’s season. You’d be hard-pressed to find the last time the Seahawks willingly put up 48 points, even against a physical Detroit defense, no less. Geno Smith had another tremendous day, throwing for 320 yards and two touchdowns. Rashaad Penny continued his emergence as a top back in the league with 151 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. Not since the days of Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch have they put anything together like that.

"Geno played spectacular football," Carroll said. "I don't know how you could play a whole lot better than that."

DK Metcalf caught seven passes for 149 yards in what was a much-needed performance from the superstar wide receiver. Last year was just one of those ridiculous dropoff years because defenses were zoned in on him. When Metcalf gets open and makes plays like that, it’s almost impossible for defenses to act because it means Smith is throwing the ball incredibly well. And when that happens, the world is ready to plunge into madness with the understanding that football doesn’t make sense.

The Saints, meanwhile, are returning to the United States after what was one heck of a collapse via the double doink in London. New Orleans lost 28-25 on Sunday to the Minnesota Vikings in what has perfectly encapsulated the start to the Saints’ season, now 1-3 through four games. Andy Dalton got the start over the injured Jameis Winston to throw for 236 yards and a touchdown, but the game was all defined by the double doink. Will Lutz’s game-tying 61-yard field goal hit the left upright, then the cross bar, and then out.

"When it left his foot I thought it was going in," Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell said. "It felt like that thing had a real good chance to go through and obviously a couple of bounces later we're able to walk off as the winning team."

Winston is listed as questionable as he deals with back, ankle and hip issues. He didn’t practice Wednesday, so I’d say all signs point to Dalton starting for the second straight week. And if anything, the steady, veteran presence of Dalton is going to at least keep the Saints in these games for the long run.

Prediction

The Saints have won six of their last seven when home favorites between 3.5 and 7 points, and this is a game where they absolutely need to win. The Seahawks can make a statement with a tough road win, but I trust Dalton to get things on the right track. Saints by 7
