Seattle Mariners Analysis

The Mariners are coming into this game after winning their series finale against the Oakland Athletics on Thursday. They are now on a 5 game winning streak as they swept the A's in a four-game series and also grabbed the series finale of their series against the Kansas City Royals. This will be the 2nd game of a three-game series against the Angels with the series opener being on Friday, that result is still pending. Logan Gilbert will be getting the nod for Friday's game while Tyler Anderson will be the starting pitcher on the mound in this game on Saturday. He is 7-9 with a 4.01 ERA this season. The Mariners have won 3 of their last 4 games with him on the mound and they are 6-4 with him as a starter since acquiring him from the Pittsburgh Pirates. In his last start, he allowed 1 ER and 1 BB with 7 Ks on 4 hits through 7 IP against the Oakland Athletics last Monday. Anderson spent most of the season on the Pirates in the NL so he has not faced this Angels lineup yet this season. Their offense has scored 19 runs in their last 4 games averaging almost 5 runs scored per game and they have allowed their opponents to score 10 runs against them in that same span allowing over 2 runs per game.

Los Angeles Angels Analysis

The Angels are coming into this game after winning their series finale against the Houston Astros on Thursday. That win snapped a 6 game losing streak that they were on as they had lost 3 of their 4 games to the Astros in their four-game series and they were swept by the A's in a three-game series prior to that. This will be the 2nd game of their three-game series against the Mariners on Saturday with their Friday result still pending as that game has not been played yet. Jose Suarez will be the starter for Friday's game while Jaime Barria will be throwing the first pitch for them in this game on Saturday. He is 2-4 with a 4.77 ERA this season. He has been credited with 4 straight losses and his team has lost 7 of their last 8 games when he has been the starter. In his last start, he allowed 2 ER, 1 being a HR, and 0 BB with 5 strikeouts on 10 hits through 5.12 innings of work against the Astros last Monday. This will be his first time going up against the Mariners lineup this season. Their offense has scored 13 runs in their last 4 games averaging over 3 runs scored per game in that span and they have allowed their opponents to score 31 runs against them in that same span allowing almost 8 runs per game.

Mariners vs Angels Prediction

After the Mariners swept the A's they put themselves in a very good position in this Wild Card race. They are now just 2 games behind the New York Yankees and 1 game behind the Toronto Blue Jays who are in front of them but not in a spot. The Boston Red Sox have started to pull away a bit but they are facing the Yankees in a series next so it is still anyone's spot. The Angels are out of contention and all they can really do here is play spoiler. They are not really playing well enough though as they have just broken out of a slump while the Mariners are on a hot streak. The best bet to make in this game is on the Mariners to win and keep rolling as they look to make that final playoff push in this last week.

Players to Watch

Seattle Mariners: Ty France is one player to watch in this game. He leads his team in batting average and in hits. The Mariners have given themselves a chance to make the playoffs here so look for France to keep making hits and getting on base to help his team win every game they can in this final stretch.

Los Angeles Angels: Shohei Ohtani is one player to watch here. He has been having a magical year as he leads his team in home runs, RBI, stolen bases and he also has the most wins on his team for a starting pitcher. He is a frontrunner for the MVP so look for him to keep giving it his all until the end of the season.
