Red Wings - Sharks preview, prediction and analysis

Recent results
Sharks: lost 4-0 at Bruins
Red Wings: lost 2-1 vs. Flyers

The San Jose Sharks will be playing the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, January 24 in Detroit, Michigan.

The San Jose Sharks lost against the Boston Bruins Sunday, January 22 in Boston, Massuchetts with a score of 4-0. The San Jose Sharks currently rank 7th in the Pacific Division. The Sharks have not defeated the Bruins since March 15, 2016. James Reimer made 18 saves for San Jose.

"No mystery why they have the record they have," Sharks coach David Quinn said. "Obviously, I didn't think we were on our game in a lot of areas. [We] hung around a little bit, but you know, just two goals to get beat 1-on-1, and just didn't get much going tonight."

The Sharks did not have a shot on goal until 10:00 of the first when defenseman Jaycob Megna's slap shot from the blue line was saved by Ullmark.

"We didn't have a lot of energy," Quinn said.

The Sharks have won just three of their last 10 and their tank-filled season continues on the highway to Bedard. San Jose has lost five of six with that win against the Dallas Stars, the comeback win from down 3-0 that had all the narrative, was their only one. The over has cashed in five of the last six.

The Detroit Red Wings lost against the Philadelphia Flyers last Saturday, January 21 in Detroit, Michigan with a score of 2-1. The Detroit Red Wings currently rank 6th in the Atlantic Division. Lucas Raymond scored, and Ville Husso made 23 saves for the Red Wings.

"It was one of those tight games where it was going to come down to the first play or the first mistake. They made the play and we made the mistake," Detroit coach Derek Lalonde said. "It's very tough to be completely upset with the game, but we're obviously upset with the outcome."

"We were doing everything right, and then Hayes makes a nice play and we kind of just stopped playing," Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin said. "I didn't pick up my guy and we [got] caught watching. That's a backbreaker in a close game."

The Red Wings have also struggled, winning just three of their last 10 games. Funny enough, those wins against Toronto, Winnipeg and Vegas should have launched them to euphoria. Alas, they're the one team in the NHL that's struggling as a dog and favorite.

Prediction

When the laws of average cancel out, you go with the home team. Detroit is much more talented to handle the Sharks in this way. Red Wings 5, Sharks 2
