Season Record

Giants: 64-68, 2nd place NL West
Dodgers: 92-41, 1st place NL West

Game 2 of the Giants/Dodgers series.  The Dodgers flubbed the first game against the Padres in the last series but promptly won Games 2 and 3 by a HUGE run differential.  12-1 and 9-4… pretty great.  It is why I have recommended spotting points when you bet on the Dodgers to increase the return.  Of course that offensive betting paid very BIG in August… It bit me in the butt over the last five games before the Padres Game 2.  Still the winning is back in Dodger stadium and lots of offense has come with it.  The Giants SWEPT their series against the struggling Phillies before coming into this series… still they are a below .500 team going against the best team in baseball.  Let’s check the numbers and make a bet.

A National League matchup between a 1st place team that is 50 wins above .500 and a 3rd place team that is 5 games below.  .500.  These teams met in the beginning of August and the 1st place Dodgers SWEPT the 3rd place Giants.  The Dodgers had been on a 3-game skid losing twice to the Mets and once to the Padres over Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.  But they found their form Saturday night destroying the Padres 12-1.  The Dodgers have a Sunday game against the Padres still to play before this Monday matchup…. By then they should be rolling with the good vibes of a long stretch of home games.  The Giants on the other hand are on a 2-game win streak, both against the Philadelphia Phillies with a Sunday game yet to play also.  They will have to squeeze in a flight to Los Angeles and a hotel check-in between that game and the first pitch in Dodger stadium just 18 hours later.  Let’s check the numbers.  Let’s check the pitching… and even though you may already know who will get the recommendation… still we have to weigh the betting lines.

The San Francisco Giants have won just 3 of their last 10 games.  They are on a 2-game win streak thanks to the struggling Phillies…. But that was preceded by a 7 game losing streak.  This is not a good team… no matter how well they played last season.  The bad news for Giants fans for the rest of the season is that this team has been decimated by season ending injury to some pretty important guys like 1B Brandon Belt, P Alex Wood, and C Joey Bart.  There will be a lot of waiting for next season before they get a shot at playing real baseball again.  They went 2-0 against the Philadelphia Phillies, 0-3 against the San Diego Padres, 0-3 against the Minnesota Twins, and 1-1 against the Detroit Tigers… It was a rough ten game stretch.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have won 6 of their last 10 games… an awful stretch for the MLB team that absolutely dominated August this year.  There is no getting around that these Boys in Blue are #1 in hitting and #1 in pitching… but baseball being baseball there will still be some losses.  The thing that will get Dodger fans nervous as the playoffs approach will be how they went 1-2 against the likely postseason opponent: The New York Mets.  They went 1-1 against the San Diego Padres, 1-2 against the New York Mets, 3-1 against the Miami Marlins and 1-0 against the Milwaukee Brewers during this last stretch.

San Francisco Giants vs Los Angeles Dodgers vs Prediction

Our prediction for Tuesday, September 6th is… Dodgers 8 - Giants 2

Bet the Dodgers at home yet again.  This time skip the moneyline and get the odds at spotting 2.5 runs.  It will pay and pay big.  That way we can get out of September with a full boat of winnings instead of the trickle of moneyline returns.

Dodgers: LHP Tyler Anderson, 13-3, 2.68 ERA, 114 strikeouts in 147 innings pitched. 1.02 WHIP.  Tyler is the actual top dog ACE on the Dodgers.  He is a winner and at 32 has lots in the tank.  When the Giants do pick their starter expect the betting lines to so heavily favor the Dodgers you will need to bet $100 to win $30 on the moneyline.

Weather Forecast

Sunny.  Hot.  97*.  Humidity 42%.  The desert sun above Dodger stadium will punish anyone not  in the shade.  And even then the light 7 mph winds will punish you with a dusty heat that causes instant sweat stains.  Many cold beers will be drunk.
