Giants: 20-14, 3rd place NL West
Rockies: 17-17, 5th place NL West

An NL West match-up in the home-run friendly thin air of mile high Denver Colorado.  The Rockies have a real advantage because all their home games are played in a stadium where scientifically a hard hit ball goes further than in other stadiums… but it’s a double edged sword and has always been.. The Giants are just as or more likely to hit one of those hard hit balls.  The home runs could start flying for either squad.  There is another advantage that is talked about less… the thin-air provides less resistance on the pitches… a guy who throws a 95 mph fast ball can start seeing 98 or 99 coming off his arm.  So who do we bet on?  The answer is in the numbers.  Let’s check.

The San Francisco Giants have won 6 of their last 10 games.  7 Overs and 3 Unders.  They went 1-2 in a three game series with the St Louis Cardinals, 3-0 in a 3-game series against THESE Rockies, and 2-2 against the St Louis Cardinals again.  So in the last ten games they have only played the St Louis Cardinals and the Colorado Rockies… they should not be proud of 6 of ten… though they blanked the Rockies pretty well (in San Francisco).  The Giants won a ton of games last season with a league best 108… before getting knocked out of the playoffs by the Los Angeles Dodgers.  The Giants are good again.  Though officially in third place it is really a 3-way tie for 1st in the NL West as the Dodgers, Padres, and Giants all have the same amount of wins and are ranked based on who has less losses…. Meaning simply the team to play the fewest games so far got to fall into first place.  It’s a long season.   The Giants need to upgrade their pitching… it’s far too average to hang with the Giants hitting.

The Colorado Rockies have won only 3 of their last 10 games.  They are on pace to fall below .500 soon.  Very soon.  The logged 7 Overs and 3 Unders.  Colorado has been on the losing end of several high scoring games.  They went 1-2 against the Kansas City Royals, 0-3 against the San Francisco Giants, 2-2 against the Arizona Diamondbacks.  The Diamondbacks and the Rockies have something in common… They both will spend decades behind the Padres, Dodgers, and Giants.  They never seem to improve.  The Rockies hitting is wonderful… they have the makings of a winning team.  The pitching however is bottom two in the league and seemingly getting worse.

San Francisco Giants vs Colorado Rockies Prediction

Our prediction for Wednesday May 18th is… Giants 7 - Rockies 2

Freeland is at a deep disadvantage to Logan Webb… and that will allow the Giants batters to simply score while the Rockies batters will barely.  I recommend betting the Giants to win on the moneyline and the Under.  The O/U line is set at 10.5 which allows a big room for the Under to come in.
