49ers - Seahawks preview and analysis

Last week
49ers: won 34-26 vs. Vikings
Seahawks: lost 17-15 at Washington (Monday)

The number of fantasy football goers that are screaming from the rooftops that DK Metcalf had only one target and one reception is large enough to form an angry mob.

This author is one of them and will not let such deterrents sway his decision for his thoughts on this Sunday’s matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks.

This is a bald-faced lie and I absolutely will rip the Seahawks a new one for lying to us.

Seattle has lost three in a row and is plummeting fast in the NFC West. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen the Seahawks fall hard into this type of obscurity, but questions need to be asked after Monday’s debacle against the Washington Football Team in which the offense put up 267 total yards and didn’t score a touchdown until their final drive of the game.

Russell Wilson, by all accounts, actually had a decent line of 247 yards and two touchdown passes. It is also a miracle that Wilson was Seattle’s leading rusher with 16 yards on two carries.

So do the math. Wilson accounted for 263 yards, and the team in total had 267. That means the Seahawks combined for FOUR rushing yards outside of Wilson. If there’s nothing worse than having your quarterback literally do everything and get nothing in return, please let me know.

"The last few minutes of the game shows that we have the right character of guys," Wilson said. "That's what's special about this team just to believe that something great's going to happen."

That’s quarterback speak for “get me the hell out of here, I hate you all.”

The bottom line is the Seahawks have scored a total of 28 points through three games; one of them included a shutout at the hands of the Green Bay Packers, the game where Wilson returned from finger surgery. Seattle is not catching the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams or even the 49ers at this rate.

Seattle’s long run of making the playoffs will soon be over.

As for the 49ers, their run of fortune has turned around during this three-game winning streak, coming off an important 8-point win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday that slightly altered the course of the playoff race.

Jimmy Garoppolo had 230 yards a touchdown and an interception, and rookie running back Elijah Mitchell posted a career-high 168 yards from scrimmage and a rushing touchdown to continue his stellar rookie campaign. San Francisco currently occupies the second wild-card spot in the NFC and is only a game back behind the Rams in the standings.

"We're all excited to be back in the mix and have the season in our control," defensive end Nick Bosa said. "We all knew we were a really good team. We had to execute better and now we're starting to execute at the right time."

That Week 4 matchup in Levi’s Stadium seems so long ago. Seattle’s offense had so much promise back then, and San Francisco was trying to figure out if Trey Lance was the future now or later. The Niners have covered in four of their last five, while the Seahawks have not come close in their last three (14-point margin as 3-point dogs against Green Bay, 14.5-point margin as 4.5-point favorites against Arizona).

Prediction

Despite the fact the 49ers are 2-7-1 in their last 10 games in Seattle, the Seahawks have not given bettors any reason to believe they can keep this one close. San Francisco’s defense is going to wreak havoc on the Seattle offensive line and make Wilson wish he was elsewhere. 49ers by 17
