Season Record

49ers: 1-1, tied for 1st and last place in the NFC West
Broncos: 1-1, tied for 2nd place AFC West

The first two weeks of the season are in the books and most teams find themselves at 1-1… seriously even the Detroit Lions are 1-1.  It is the happening trend to be 1-1.  After Week 3 the separation will start.  It will ramp up in Week 4 and soon we will have teams that are 3-1 and teams that are 1-3.  Soon the numbers on these teams will be more reliable.  The San Francisco 49ers got an awful moment when QB Trey Lance suffered a broken ankle in Week 2… his back-up QB Jimmy Garapollo (who was the 49ers starter over the last 4 seasons) came in to save the day… and in the minds of the players to save the season.  The players may have noticed that Trey Lance wasn’t getting it done and has only played QB in 6 games over the last 4 years combining college and the pros.  The players may also have noticed that Jimmy G has the best record of any 49ers QB over the last 5 seasons… in fact when Jimmy plays the 49ers win… when he doesn’t they lose.  Also the sad part is that it is wraps on Trey Lance’s career. Next season when the broken ankle is mended the 49ers brain trust will again have to decide between resigning Jimmy G or starting a guy that has not played quarterback full time for any program for the last 5 years… Oh and by the way… he is a kid that still has to learn the position?!!  It’s done for Trey.  The Denver Broncos solved their QB problem during the offseason by trading for and resigning QB Russell Wilson to a 50 million dollar a year contract.  After two games they have yet to solve the “winning and losing” part of the game.  Insiders tell me it is because their coach is actually a dunderhead.  A real deal never had a leadership position neophyte!  His in game decisions also keep telling me that.  The thing the Broncos have going for them outside of a dunderhead coach… is they have great numbers on both sides of the ball.

The San Francisco 49ers won the 2nd game of their season behind the amazing play of surprise QG Jimmy Garapolo.  They lost to the Seattle Seahawks 27-7.  Before you go thinking that Trey Lance could have also beat the Seahawks try to remember that Trey broke his ankle immediately following two horrible possessions that produced nothing.  Jimmy G came in and produced lots of offense. Listen Jimmy G is ridiculously good looking!  It is ridiculous.. So before you start thinking he has people rooting for him… remember he has lost two jobs (patriots in waiting, 49ers starter) because he was just too much for the other quarterback to compete with.

The Denver Broncos have their quarterback of the future … but really the present.  Russell Wilson is undersized and overpaid… he is waiting for the team to catch up to him. He has great offensive numbers after 2 games but poor scoring numbers.  This guy lost a super bowl by throwing an interception at the 1-yard line!  Maybe it is him… maybe it is the dunderhead coach?  Still the numbers are great all around until they prove otherwise.  The proving otherwise will have to start with winning.  This team lost to Seattle and beat the league’s joke, the Houston Texans.  The 49ers fully beat the same Seattle Seahawks team.

San Francisco 49ers vs Denver Broncos Preview and Analysis

RECENT FORM

Offensive Analysis

The 49ers came out of Week 2: 20th in points scored with 18.5 per game, 16th in yards per game with 352 per game, 29th in passing yards per game with 169.5, and 4th in rushing yards with 182.5 per game.

The Broncos came out of Week 2: 24th in scoring with 16 points per game, 9th in yards per game with 391.5 per game, 8th in passing yards with 265.5 per game, and 9th in rushing yards with 126 per game.   Holy small sample size!  The truth is they did not score enough.  That can change a lot easier than the stats… and the stats will certainly jump up and down until around Game 7.

Defensive Analysis

The 49ers defense came out of Game 2: 1st in defending total yards with 210 per game, 1st in defending passing yards with 142.5 per game, 2nd in defending rushing yards with 67.5 per game, and 3rd in defending points with 13 per game… but please please please remember that the Chicago game was a rainy mess that have screwed with all these numbers.

The Broncos defense came out of Week 2: 3rd in defending total yards with 243.5 per game, 5th in defending passing yards with 165.5 per game, 5th in defending rushing yards with 78 per game, and 4th in defending points scored with 13 per game… but please remember they built a lot of those numbers against the Houston Texans.
