This is a heavily anticipated game for everyone who is intrigued by quarterback play!  The San Francisco 49ers have been a really good team over the last 4 seasons and have built a potential Super Bowl winning roster… everyone says so!  What could possibly be holding them back?... Oh yeah… They are treating the quarterback spot like a chemistry experiment.  Last season’s rookie Trey Lance has been given the job of STARTING QUARTERBACK…. Winning, yet often hurt, quarterback Jimmy Grappolo was shown the door…. Then he was immediately brought back in and signed as Trey Lance’s backup…. Wait last year’s starter is this year’s backup… yet the 49ers have been very good when last year’s starter played… and very average when thai year’s starter got some playing time last season?... Whew!  That couldn’t possibly cause any divisions in the locker room Could it?   The Bears on the other hand do not have a great roster… They have not had a great roster in a long time.  They handed their team over to  rookie QB Justin Fields last season and watched it struggle (like the Bears always do).  Bears fans held their breath as Justin got hit again and again.  Bears fans held their breath as Justin showed sparks of talent in between the interceptions.  Could Justin be the future?  He has to be… the Bears literally have no other plans.  So, it is Trey versus Justin in Game 1!  The outcome of this game will not determine the careers of either of these guys… but it will set the tone and talking points for the season.

A new year really means a new year.  Everyone gets to start fresh.  We can go off of last season’s numbers but have to remember there have been changes.  The question to ask yourself is which team has shown an ability to get better… while which team has shown an inability to get better.  We can pass judgment on which team seems to solve problems year over year.  Then we can give that team the benefit in the New Season.

San Francisco 49ers vs Chicago Bears Preview and Analysis

RECENT FORM

Offensive Analysis

Last season the 49ers scored 25.1 points per game, averaged 427 yards per game, and landed 50 total touchdowns.

Last season the Chicago Bears averaged 18.1 points per game, 311 yards per game, and landed 33 touchdowns.

49ers vs Bears Prediction

Our prediction for Sunday, September 11th is… 49ers 21 - Bears 12

Take the 49ers.  This is incredibly tough to do because Trey Lance may not work with all the pressure and Jimmy G staring at him from the sideline.  Also if Trey does not work the 49ers can’t put Jimmy G in the game because he hasn’t worked with the team in preseason.  However, the Bears did not improve the roster much.  Sure they drafted some guys and Justin Fields is a year older, but for God’s sake their best receiver from last season plays elsewhere.  A couple of rookie draft picks who do not play weapon spots aren’t going to help last season's 18.3 ppg very much.  And when we talk about ROSTER the 49ers have the big advantage.

Bet on the 49ers to cover that 7 points... but skip the Over/Under.  We have not seen the 49ers play and can not determine if Trey will lower or increase last season's ppg.  We haver to see them in action before we jump on an O/U.  Trey's offense is too much of a mystery to do anything else.
