San Diego Padres Analysis

The Padres are coming into this final game of the season schedule on Sunday after losing their series opener against the Giants. This will be the series finale and their season finale with their Saturday game still to be played, the result is still pending for that one. The Padres are now on a 7 game losing streak and they have lost 12 of their last 13 games. Joe Musgrove was given the nod for their game on Saturday while there is no scheduled starter for them in this game on Sunday. They are already out of the playoffs so there is a good chance they will be giving some younger players a chance to play in this game as there is nothing left for them to play for here. Their offense has scored 13 runs in their last 4 games averaging a little over 3 runs scored per game in that span and they have allowed their opponents to score 24 runs against them in that same span allowing 6 runs per game.

San Francisco Giants Analysis

The Giants are coming into this last game after winning the series opener of this three-game series on Friday. This will be the final game of the season but it will not be the final game for the Giants this year as they have earned themselves a trip to the postseason. The Giants have the best record in the MLB and they are now on a 7 game winning streak and have won 9 of their last 10 games as they get heated for their postseason run. Their Saturday game still has to be played with that result pending. Kevin Gausman will be the starter for them on Saturday while Logan Webb will be throwing the first pitch for them in this game on Sunday. He is 10-3 with a 2.93 ERA this season and he has been credited with 9 straight wins. His team has won 9 of their last 10 games and 17 of their last 19 when he has started on the mound. In his last start, he allowed 1 run, it was not earned, and 2 BB with 6 strikeouts on 4 hits through 5 innings of work against the Arizona Diamondbacks last Tuesday. He has seen the Padres lineup twice this season and he is 0-1 against them with 1 no-decision but his team is 0-2 in those games as he allowed over 3 runs in each of those. Their offense has scored 15 runs in their last 4 games averaging just under 4 runs scored per game in that span and they have allowed their opponents to score 8 runs against them in that same span allowing 2 runs per game.

Padres vs Giants Prediction

These two teams have been playing in completely opposite form to end the season. The Padres were already starting to play badly while they were still in the Wild Card spot but once they dropped out of it the losses were out of control for them. The Giants have gotten on a roll now as they get ready for the playoffs and they are just playing much better right now. They also are looking to clinch the division over the Los Angeles Dodgers and get to the World Series this year. The best bet to make in this game is on the Giants to win on the moneyline and on the runline.

Padres Giants Prediction:  Our MLB Pick for Sunday, Oct 3, 2021 (3:05 pm ET start time) is Giants 6 Padres 1.
