Season Record

Padres: 31-21, 2nd place NL West
Brewers: 33-21, 1st place NL Central

The Padres finally got one in game 2 of the series.  They were looking at a hard road if the Brewers won every one of these… but as we have Game 3 tonight… The game we are looking at is Game 4.  San Diego won that Game 2 7-0… in dominating fashion.  That is how I saw the series going.  For Game 4 you can expect more of that.  The Brewers batting doesn’t quotes measure up to the Brewers pitching.  That means if we get a great pitching matchup… we also have a great betting opportunity… because the Brewers bullpen will not do what the Padres bullpen can do.  Get it?, Got it?, Good.

The Milwaukee Brewers are looking to feast on the San Diego Padres.   … the hitters have seen enough of the other team and are ready to put one over the wall.  Plus the manager has gotten a feel for the other manager by game 3 (applies to each).  This will be a 4-game long series…You would be wrong not to think the Padres will get stronger as the series goes while the Brewers will get softer

An MLB National League matchup between the 2nd best West team and the best Central team.  Their records are nearly identical… It is just that the Brewers have played 2 more games by now.  Those two games have been losses.  The Brewers have lost twice more… but the divisions are worldly different,  The West is a killer of the worst kind… the Dodgers, the Giants,... they are always looking to pick off your cubs.  The Central is loaded with predators that are missing teeth.  The Padres are strong… The Brewers are strong… but are they equal?... And who should we see as the Great betting opportunity?

The Padres have won just 5 of their last 10 games.  It spoiled the run they were on to the top. They had 1 Over, 7 Under, and 2 Push.  The Padres rely heavily on Manny Machado who was clearly worth the big contract he signed as he is leading the team in Home Runs, Batting Average, and OPS.  They went 0-2 against the St Louis Cardinals, 2-1 against the Pittsburgh Pirates, 1-2 against the Milwaukee Brewers, and 2-0 against the San Francisco Giants.  The Padres have the batting they need the pitching excellence to get to the right spot in the MLB standings… Some think they have it… some think they are circling the drain.

The Brewers have won 6 of their last 10 games.  They don’t need much to keep pulling away from the pack in the Central division.  In fact if they simply won 6 of every ten over the rest of the season, They would be miles ahead of the losers in the Central division.  They went 2-1 against the Chicago Cubs, 2-2 against the St Louis Cardinals, and 2-1 against the Milwaukee Brewers.  First Baseman Rowdy Tellez leads the Brewers in home runs with 10, but the team hits as a group.   Catcher Omar Narvaez has come on as of late to lead the team in batting average… and the usual Milwaukee suspects of Christian Yelich, Luis Urias, and Andrew McCutchen all get in on the action.

Brewers pitchers are 5th in team ERA with 3.36, 10th in WHIP… and the fielder’s are literally dropping the ball at 23rd in errors with 33 on the season so far.

San Diego Padres vs Milwaukee Brewers Prediction

Our prediction for Sunday June 5th is… Padres 6 - Brewers 1.

The bet is on the Padres to keep producing.  I will always bet on a team that continues to provide proof that they can produce runs.  Runs are the building blocks of wins.  Pitching is great, but if the manager \can find an even matchup…. The runs make all the difference.

Key Injuries

Padres: LF M. Beatty (shoulder) Out ** SS Fernando Tatis JR (wrist) Out **

Brewers: 2B K. Wong, (upper body) Quest ** RF Hunter Renfroe (hamstring) Probable, SS Willy Adames (ankle) Out ** Catcher Pedro Severino (suspended) Out

Players to Watch

Padres: RHP Mike Clevinger, 1-0, 3.21 ERA, 15 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched, 1.14 WHIP.  This 31 year old is getting a long hard look in a starter spot.  He has a career record of 45-23 while throwing nasty stuff out of the bullpen.  His nickname is “sunshine”.  We have been predicting his rise for several years… it will be another wait and see game.

Brewers: LHP Eric Lauer, 5-1, 2.49 ERA, 61 strikeouts in 50 innings pitched, 1.09 WHIP.  This 27 year old is a real killer.  His career stats are about .500 on the win/loss column… but he has real action on his pitches.  He has real fire in his soul.  He premiered in 2018 after being drafted by the Padres… Maybe the Padres should have held on to him… or maybe the Padres saw a hitch that was unfixable… how does a guy with this m8uch talent have a 26-25 record while being on a winning team?

Starting Lineups
