Season Record

Padres: 49-38, 2nd place, NL West
Rockies: 38-48, 5th place (last) NL West

It happened again!  The San Diego Padres got not just spanked, but humiliated… in their last game.  The San Francisco Giants handed the Padres a 12-0 loss.  The Giants are ranked below the Padres in the NL West.  The Colorado Rockies meanwhile won their last game against the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2.  I hope I don’t have to point out that the surging Rockies have had the number of the sinking Padres all season long!  Game 1 of this series is Monday night… this prediction covers Game 2 of the matchup.  We will look at the pitching matchup and make a quick easy betting prediction.

A wild National league matchup!  The San Diego Padres are 2nd in the NL West.  They look tough, they look strong, they have stars…. And the 5th place Colorado Rockies have feasted on the Padres several times.  That doesn’t make a lot of sense … but it is what happened.  The last place Rockies have what it takes to beat the Padres… The last place Rockies also have what it takes to sweep the 2nd place Padres. When the Rockies play the Padres you have to remember that within the division even last place teams have been built to respond to the other teams in that division.  They may not have enough potency or reliability to take it to the rest of the league… but they have been built in response to the others.  So where does this leave us?.... In a pitching matchup and quick moneyline bet.

The San Diego Padres have won only 4 of their last 10 games.  It has been a stretch where the 1st place Dodgers not only pulled away, but kept pulling away… and away and away. The Padres went 2-1 against the San Francisco Giants, 0-2 against the lowly Seattle Mariners, 1-3 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and 1-0 against the Arizona Diamondbacks.  The Padres have what it takes to contend and to win… until you look at their injury list.  You see the names Fernando Tatis JR, Jurickson Purifar, Beaty, Meyers,.... Kim… and you start to wonder: What do the Padres have left?.... Not much is the answer.

The Colorado Rockies have won 4 of their last ten games.  Not great, but for a last place team it does show the basis for a fight.  They went 2-1 against the Arizona Diamondbacks, they got swept 0-3 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, 2-1 against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and 0-1 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.  The Rockies are a bad team.  A sad team.  Except they do have an unusual penchant for beating the San Diego Padres… and at this moment the Padres are struggling.
