76ers - Spurs preview and analysis
Recent form
76ers: won five straight; won 116-106 at Magic on Wednesday
Spurs: won 99-97 at Celtics on Wednesday
We knew it was a matter of time before the Philadelphia 76ers would find their winning ways. Now winners of five straight, the sky might not be falling in Philadelphia anymore.
The Sixers will look to push that winning streak even further when they host the San Antonio Spurs on Friday at Wells Fargo.
Philadelphia has been on a roll over the past couple of weeks, getting wins against the Brooklyn Nets and Washington Wizards during this stretch, with the Sixers going 4-1 against the spread in that time.
Five players scored in double figures in the Sixers' fifth straight victory, a 10-point win at the Orlando Magic on Wednesday. Joel Embiid did his thing as one does with 31 points on 12 of 22 shooting, while Tobias Harris, Seth Curry and Furkan Korkmaz each eclipsed 20 points.
Philadelphia shot 51 percent from the floor and hit 12 of 28 3-point attempts.
While I can understand winning by just 10 points against the lowly Magic is not an ideal situation to get excited about. That changes a bit when you're on a winning streak and are still getting better as the days go on. Keep in mind that Ben Simmons is still on in the cards, nor is his availability to other teams seemingly in play at the moment, either.
But the Sixers are in for a decent test against the Spurs, who despite being so low down the Western Conference totem pole, are looking competitive at 10th in the Western Conference right now.
San Antonio, despite that competitiveness, ended its three-game losing streak in a 2-point win over the Boston Celtics with the likes of Derrick White, Thaddeus Young and Doug McDermott out in COVID protocol. But Dejounte Murray is still a valuable part of this team after dropping 22 points in the win over the Celtics.
Prediction
The Spurs have so many out right now due to COVID that it's hard to think they can keep up with Philadelphia in an outside-inside game. Even if they can't make threes, I like the Sixers to win this by double digits.
Betting trends
The Spurs are 0-5 ATS in their last five road games against a team with a losing home record.
The 76ers are 1-5 ATS in their last six home games.
The over is 5-1 in the last six in Philadelphia.
