Season Record

Spurs: 3-6 (12 place, Western Conference)
Thunder: 2-6 (13th place Western Conference)

The Spurs beat the Orlando Magic on Friday night and for what it is worth winning 1 game in San Antonio is “being on a roll” these days. Dejounte Murray is San Antonio’s best player and if he were behind you in line at the Local 7-11 you wouldn’t recognize him.  The ghost of NBA season past remembers the Spurs always having 3-4 famous faces as they held down a 20 year dynasty.  The game before last (Wednesday night) they got beat by the Dallas Mavericks, an average NBA team, by 1 point. The Spurs first loss this season was game #2 against the Denver Nuggets, then a tumble started with losses to the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Dallas Mavericks.  It has been 2-2 since.

The Thunder won their last matchup in dramatic fashion against the Los Angeles Lakers (without LeBron James)... they fell behind by as much as 19 points in the 2nd quarter… But led by young star player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, OKC picked up the pace and stayed on the Lakers heels all game until they snuck away the win in the final minutes 107-104.  It was only their second win off their first 8 games.  The other win also came against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday Oct, 27th when the Lakers failed to contest shots and rookie Josh Giddey announced his arrival to the league by netting 18 pts and 10 rebounds from the backup guard spot.  The Thunder you watch this season will be different next season and different again the season after that.  They are rebuilding aggressively by trading for picks and drafting outside of the box.  Three years from now Shai Gilgeous, Darius Bazley, and Josh Giddey will be the only names left from the 2021-22 Thunder (if they stay healthy).  The Thunder have lost to the likes of the Houston Rockets, the Utah Jazz, the Philadelphia 76ers, the Golden State Warriors (twice),  and the Los Angeles Clippers.  They may fare better against other young teams like the New orleans Pelican, the Charlotte Hornets, and the Memphis Grizzlies… but they will never be above .500 this season.  They don’t want to be.

Spurs vs Thunder Preview and Analysis.

RECENT FORM
The Spurs are 3-6 on the season, but 6-3 ATS.  They have been a solid team to bet on.  They have notched 4 OVERS and 5 UNDERS, so they still put an emphasis on defense reflective of their hall of fame coach.  As far as the record goes they are 2-3 at home and 1-3 on the road. You will see NBA predictions that favor the Spurs all throughout the season… even when their record gets bad.  Everyone knows Pop will have them playing hard, well executed ball whether they have enough talent or not.

The Thunder are 2-6 on the season, but 4-4 ATS.  They have not been a good or safe bet.  Like lots of young teams in constant flux, they perform well sometimes and stop at brick city other times. They have notched 2 Overs and 6 Unders.  Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is their Star player.  He does everything from the Point Guard position well, but the engine that makes this team play well is Luguentz Dort. He is a scrappy, emotional, unheralded player that will give you full effort on defense all the time. Dort’s stats don’t jump off the page.. His hustle jumps off the court.

Offensive Analysis

San Antonio is 13th in points per game 108.9, 24th in rebounds 44.4, 2nd in Ast/To ratio 2.0, and 11th in blocks 5.6 a game.  They aren’t winners

OKC Thunder are 29th in points with 98 per, 16th in rebounds 45.1 per, 27th in Ast/To ratio 1.3, and 29th in blocks 3.8.  They are holding their spot in the league and racing toward the next NBA draft.  Don’t bet on them to win… except maybe if they are playing the Lakers at Staples Center?

Coaches
Spurs:  Greg Poppovich.  One of only five coaches in NBA history to have five NBA titles.  He doesn’t like the trend of 3-pointers over quality shots that the NBA has shifted to… he is looking his age… he will soon hand this team over to Becky Hammond.

Thunder:  Mark Daigneault.  A rookie NBA coach.  He was born in 1985.  huh.
