Season Record

Kings: 12-18, 10th place Western Conference
Warriors: 24-6, 2nd place Western Conference

The Sacramento Kings are losing games.  That has always been the normal state of affairs in Sacramento over the last decade.  They are a small market who can’t attract quality free agents, so they have to draft and trade well if they ever want a winning team.  They haven’t proved to do either well.  They did see a little success in the draft the last couple tries when they landed PG De’Aaron Fox with the 5th pick in 2017, SG Tyrese Haliburton with the 12th pick in 2020, and now backup PG Davion Mitchell (a defensive stud) with the 9th pick in 2021.  Now they are stuck.  A team with some good play out of a trio of young guards, veteran SF Harrison Barnes, and veteran PF Richaun Holmes.  With nothing else they will stay NBA underdogs who occasionally pull out a win against the San Antonio Spurs or the Orlando Magic, or the Los Angeles Clippers.  However, if they do manage to trade 6th man, shooter Buddy Hield and disappointing #2 pick in 2018 Marvin Bagley III… for something else… anything that could play Center/power forward at a high level… then maybe… Only maybe they would be worth betting on.

The Golden State Warriors continue to do-si-so with the Phoenix Suns.  Both teams rarely lose so whenever one plays and the other has the night off they switch places in the standings… then when the reverse happens,,, the reverse happens.  Golden State has been #1 in the Western Conference and the league 16 of the last 30 days… the Phoenix Suns have been #1 in the Western Conference and the league 14 of the last 30 days.  In fact during that span they played each other twice and each team got 1 win and 1 loss.  If this holds up they will make the most exciting Western Conference Finals matchup in a long, long time.  (lot’s of season left though).  The Warriors may have stopped celebrating PG Stephen Curry breaking the all-time 3-pointers made record, previously held by retired sharpshooter Ray Allen, but we shouldn’t.  Considering that Steph has years still left to play… That may be a record you never see fall for the rest of your lifetime.

Sacramento is 12-18 on the season, but 13-17 ATS.  They have logged 14 Overs and 15 Unders.  They are 6-9 in road games.

Golden State is 24-6 on the season, but 18-10-2 ATS.  They have notched 9 Overs and 20 Unders.  They are a blistering 14-2 in home games.  In case you forgot that Draymond Green was still on the team, remember that lots of these wins are because the Warriors are #1 in defense in the NBA.  Draymod gets a Hall Of Fame jacket too one day.

Offensive Analysis

Sac is 7th in PTS with 110.9 per game, 13th in rebounds with 45.2 per game, 20th in AST/TO ratio with 1.6.  They are shooting 17th in FG%, 24th in 3PT%, 23rd in FT%.  They are shooting what you would expect for a young team with a thin bench.

Sacramento Kings vs Golden State Warriors Prediction

Our prediction for Monday, December 20th is….  Warriors 118 - Kings 101

The Warriors should easily handle the Kings… especially if some of the Covid scratches on Sacramento’s roster hasn’t cleared protocols by game time.  They are currently down 6 players. Yes, the warriors are also down several players to injury or ailment… but they are mostly listed as Questionable,,, Meaning they will play if the Kings get out of protocol and they will not if the Kings don’t.  Either way the squads will be tilted in favor of the Warriors.

NBA Betting Trends

Sacramento is 3-1 ATS versus Golden State at Golden State over the last 3 seasons.
3 of 4 games in this series have gone Under.

Injury list

Sac: PF Richaun Holmes (eye) Out… plus six players out with covid including star PG DeAron Fox and quality backup PG Davion Mitchell.  It’ll be slim pickings if some or all don’t make it back in time.

GS: Draymond Green (hip) Questionable, A Wiggins (covid) Out, Iguodala (knee) Questionable, PG Steph Curry… will rest if the others rest.  Will play if the others play.

Starting Lineups

Kings: PG Tyrese Haliburton, SG Buddy Hield, SF Harrison Barnes, PF Chimezie Metu, C Tristan Thompson

Warriors: SF Jonathan Kuminga, PF Juan Toscano-Anderson, C Kevon Looney, G Damion Lee, G Chris Chiozza

Statistical Leaders

Kings
Points: De’Aaron Fox 21.3
Assists: Tyrese Haliburton 5.9
Rebounds: Richaun Holmes 9.3
Steals: Tyrese Haliburton 1.7
Blocks: Alex Len 1.0

Warriors:
Points: Stephen Curry 27
Assists: Draymond Green 7.3
Rebounds: Draymond Green 7.9
Steals: Stephen Curry 1.6
Blocks: Draymond Green 1.0

Coaches

Kings:  Alvin Gentry:  Coach Gentry has coached all over the NBA.  He is a vet, a lifer, a seen it all kind of guy.  It was no surprise that the Kings tapped him to take over when they fired Silver Spoon head coach Luke Walton.

Warriors:  Steve Kerr.  Steve Kerr has a long way to go to get as many NBA Championship rings for coaching as Phil Jackson has… though if you add the rings Steve has as a player (5) and as a coach (3)... he’s only 1 away.  He could very easily get that 1 this season if Klay Thompson comes back at 80% of what he once was.
