NBA Standings

Phoenix Suns: 34-9, 1st place Western Conference
Dallas Mavericks 25-19, 5th place Western Conference

A Western Conference Matchup between the best team in the NBA and… a team in the NBA.  The Western Conference standings are dominated by four teams at the top… The Phoenix Suns, the Golden State Warriors, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Utah Jazz…. Then there is a big 4-game dropoff… then you find the Dallas Mavericks.  5th place is fine… unless the top four places are held by teams that are simply night in and night out 4-9.5 games better than you.  The Suns don’t care who they play or who is on that team.. They fear no one… they win at the highest clip and they are led by PG Chris Paul… a man who would lead any group into anything and get the best out of them… fortunately for CP3 his group is made up of the best young roster in basketball.

The Phoenix Suns have pulled 2.5 games ahead of the Golden State Warriors in the standings… that is a firm grip on 1st place.  The Suns have won 8 of their last 10 games… losing only to the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat along the way.  The Suns are a perfectly balanced team… SG Devin Booker leads them in points, PG Chris Paul Leads them in assists, and C Deandre Ayton leads them in rebounds… causing opposing teams to pick their poison about who to focus on and prevent… than SF Mikal Bridges sneaks up on everybody to contribute pon every stat line… the result is win after win after win.

The Dallas Mavericks took some lumps this season.  Prozingis missed time with injury and Luka Doncic missed time from injury… they both had covid absences. Some feelings were hurt in the earlier part of this season when everyone started pointing out that All-NBA, All-star, point guard Luka Doncic had gotten a little chubby and appeared winded late in games… a guy with Luka’s usage rate can not afford to be out of shape.  He explained the weight gain away as maybe he enjoyed the off-season a little too much.  All the kerfuffle did was highlight the Mavs ultimate weakness… They have two stars that must be on the same page night in and night out… or they simply are vulnerable.  SF Dorian Finney-Smith is the third best player on the roster and he is not top 12 at his position in the NBA… the rest of the roster is made up of fantastic NBA role players who maybe are better suited coming off the bench than being starters.  The Mavs are working it out though.  They have won 9 of their last 10 games.  The one loss was definitely a fluke as it came against the New York Knicks

Phoenix Suns vs Dallas Mavericks Prediction

Our prediction for Thursday, January 20th is….  Suns 118 - Mavericks 108

The Suns should roll the Mavericks hard.  The Mavs are, at best, a poorly balanced one man team with a group of back-up dancers.  The Suns and their perfect symmetry will take advantage of that everytime.  Bet Suns.
