Flyers - Jets preview, prediction and analysis
The Philadelphia Flyers will be playing the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday, January 28 in Winnipeg.
The Philadelphia Flyers lost against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, January 26 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Minnesota with a score of 3-2 in overtime. The Philadelphia Flyers currently rank 7th in the Metropolitan Division.
Noah Cates scored, and Hart made 20 saves for the Flyers.
"This was a game of two willing teams," Philadelphia coach John Tortorella said. "That's a hard team, hard building to play in. Happy we get a point, but it leaves you wanting more. Same type of situation, we go down and have a great chance. We don't score. They come right down and score on us.
"We're trying, but I respect how we played. I respect how they played. It was a hard-fought game."
Cates gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead at 5:14 of the first period when Rasmus Ristolainen's shot deflected off Cates and got past Fleury.
The game required overtime after Tony DeAngelo tied it with 1:28 remaining in the third period with a shot from the right face-off circle just two seconds after Hart was pulled for an extra attacker.
Philadelphia is 1-9 in overtime this season.
"We've got to find ways to win more games," DeAngelo said. " … You've got to find a way to win some of these games in overtime. We're doing a good job of staying in every game and giving ourselves a chance to win, but not finishing the job enough."
The Philadelphia Flyers have won five of their last 10 games.
The Winnipeg Jets lost against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday, January 26 at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg with a score of 3-2. The Winnipeg Jets currently rank 2nd in the Central Division.
Nate Schmidt and Pierre-Luc Dubois scored, and Connor Hellebuyck made 33 saves for the Jets.
"We'll get a lot more consistent with our play when we stop being so stubborn with the puck," Winnipeg coach Rick Bowness said. "We'll play a lot faster, and when you're playing fast it's a lot more fun, and you'll be a lot more consistent. We're slowing ourselves down and making it too easy for the opposition by our puck management."
The Sabres scored the first three goals of the game. Schmidt cut it to 3-1 on the power play, scoring from the right hash mark at 15:14 before Dubois made it 3-2 at 19:17 with Hellebuyck pulled for the extra attacker.
"I thought we had a couple chances in the first period, [but] I don't know if we had more than three times in their zone in the second," Schmidt said. "We had some chances in the third period where we were pressing, but I'd like for us to be pressing for most of the game."
The Winnipeg Jets have won five of their last 10 games.
