Flyers - Capitals preview, prediction and analysis

Recent results
Flyers: won 5-3 vs. Capitals
Capitals: lost 5-3 at Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers will be playing the Washington Capitals on Saturday, January 14 in Washington D.C.

The Philadelphia Flyers won against the Washington Capitals last Wednesday, January 11 in Philadelphia with a score of 5-3. The Philadelphia Flyers rank 7th in the Metropolitan Division. Travis Konecny had a hat trick and Owen Tippett and Scott Laughton also scored resulting in the 5-3 win. Carter Hart finished with 26 saves.

“I'm kind of getting my bounces right now,” Konecny said. “It goes around in the locker room throughout a season and it's just going my way right now.”

"I just think he's playing," Flyers coach John Tortorella said. "He's a reactionary-type player. I've only seen him play from afar before this year. He just plays. The puck finds him. He plays in the [right] areas. Everything about his game, his effort, I think he's getting rewarded."

The Philadelphia Flyers have won seven of their last 10 games.

"We're playing more confident offensively, and with that comes results, and obviously when results are coming there's confidence that comes throughout the group," Tippett said. "I think we're all enjoying winning and we want to keep it going."

The Washington Capitals lost against the Philadelphia Flyers last Wednesday in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with a score of 5-3. The Washington Capitals rank 4th in the Metropolitan Division. Garnet Hathaway, Marcus Johansson and T.J. Oshie scored, and Darcy Kuemper made 31 saves for Washington. This loss put the Capitals seven road-game winning streak to an end.

"In the third I think we had chances to tie that game and just didn't get it done, so that's frustrating," Capitals coach Peter Laviolette said. "There's things that we did that shot ourselves in the foot."

The Washington Capitals have won six of their last 10 games.

"I told him earlier I was struggling trying to get him the puck tonight," Oshie said of Nicklas Backstrom. "It usually works out better when he has it in his hands and gets it to me."

Prediction

Given that the last game was in Philadelphia, you’d have to expect the home team this time around to get some revenge. The home team is 4-1 in the last five meetings and the Flyers have only won four of the last 14 meetings. The Capitals could benefit from having the home crowd and put together another streak. Capitals 4, Flyers 2

Betting trends

Flyers are 7-2 when on two days rest this season.

Capitals are 14-21 after a division game the last 2 seasons.
