Flyers - Oilers preview, prediction and analysis

The Edmonton Oilers haven’t had the best of luck lately with four straight losses, three of them coming in overtime and two of them at home. Edmonton will try to bounce back and take on the Philadelphia Flyers at home on Tuesday, who will try to win a second straight road game of this Western Canadian road trip.

Edmonton is coming off a 6-5 overtime loss at Colorado after a rally from the defending Stanley Cup champion Avalanche. Mikko Rantanen scored the game-winner with 22 seconds remaining in overtime with Colorado scoring three times in the third. Warren Foegele scored twice, and Leon Draisaitl found the back of the net for the fourth straight game.

"Normally I might dress it up and say, 'Hey, it's good to get a point,' but I got to say that that was utterly disappointing for us," Edmonton coach Jay Woodcroft said. "We know we can defend a lot better than we did, and ultimately it cost us getting the second point. We'll take the point and move on, but to dress it up any other way other than disappointing would be not honest."

The Oilers are not out of a playoff spot by any stretch. As of now, they hold the first wild card in the Western Conference and are still dangerous for whomever draws them. These two could meet at some point. Who knows? But as long as Connor McDavid keeps playing at a high level and they get adequate goaltending, the sky will remain possible for this group.

Philadelphia is looking for a second straight win after getting a surprising 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames. Normally we’d say this was noteworthy and we just move on, but this is a Flyers team that somehow finds a way to win games after seemingly seem lost when John Tortorella calls them out the game before. There’s really no idea of thinking this season with this group and I’m really just here for the fun of it.

"I mean, really it's fun, it's special, but I'm just trying to make my spot here on the team," Ersson said. "Every game is huge for me here. I really have to focus on taking it game by game here."

Samuel Ersson made 32 saves in the Flyers’ win over Calgary, and Wade Allison and Travis Konecny scored.

"It's a dirty win for us," Flyers defenseman Cam York said. "That's what we've needed the past few games. Obviously, didn't go our way or exactly how we drew it up, but we found a way tonight. It felt like a Flyers win."

I’m not sure exactly what a Flyers win looks like nowadays but if that’s the one, then the bar is really low. Philadelphia has no basis to win any game at any time but here we are.

Prediction

If this was a Flyers win, I wonder what a Flyers loss would look like against McDavid and Draisaitl. Oilers 6, Flyers 2
