Flyers - Red Wings preview, prediction and analysis

The Detroit Red Wings will attempt to win their second consecutive game as they return home to take on the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. The Red Wings are coming into this game having lost three of their last four but suddenly after defeating the Vegas golden Knights 3-2 on Thursday, there might be a little bit of excitement or at the very least trepidation in which Detroit is looking at right now.

It wasn't the most dominant victory for Detroit in Las Vegas the other night, but at the very least it was a game that Detroit controlled because Vegas is limited offensively and defensively at the moment. Lucas Raymond scored the opening goal, and Ville Husso made 33 saves for his first victory ever against Vegas.

"I don't think we gave easy offense for them and kept them outside," Husso said. "Unfortunately, they got a lucky bounce at the end. Overall, it was a good effort. … There were a couple of shots from the blue line, and I saw all of those. Guys boxed out well. It was not an easy night, but it was one of the nicer nights to play as a goalie."

I definitely do think there was a lot of high hopes for Detroit this year and there is still that chance that they can go on a run in the second-half of the season and make the playoffs, but that is asking a lot of a team that has not tasted playoff success yet. Detroit is racking up points as best they can, but there is really no clear cut ideology that says that they have enough in the tank to make the playoffs. They are talented up front, they have a superstar in the making on defense, and the goaltending is actually fairly solid. If they can actually turn that into a good look down the road that will be telling.

Philadelphia is coming into this game after losing 4-1 to the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday at home in what has been an eventful 48 hours for the Philadelphia organization of the whole. There's really no need to expand further on the situation involving Ivan provorov but at the very least, this is the kind of franchise that sells its soul to the devil in order to win enough games to where they are not relegated because of a horrendous season. and that is what it is period

Morgan Frost scored for Philadelphia, and then Chicago reeled off four straight goals and that was exactly all that was needed from Chicago. And much like has been the case all season, goaltending was a problem for Philadelphia. Carter Hart saw 28 shots and only made 25 saves while giving up three goals and there was no answer for Philadelphia.

"To be honest, I think they just outworked us," Frost said. "Clearly, we lacked some energy there. I don't know what the cause of that is, but they played harder. I don't think we really deserved to win tonight."

Philadelphia overall has still won seven of its last 10 in four of its last six despite losing two of the last three period if you were able to catch up with that good on you because that was a mouthful.

Prediction

I know it's easier said than done than to say that the team that should win this game has the more talent but Philadelphia has found a way to win games all year long with no real basis of talent or structure. So that's why we're going with Detroit. Red Wings 3, Flyers 1
