Flyers - Blackhawks preview and analysis

Never before, and I'm probably lying when I say this because it has happened more occasions than I would like to admit, has there been a game that has made me want to completely ignore the sport of hockey than the one we are getting on Monday between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Chicago Blackhawks. I'm not entirely sure why are the schedule makers made this out to be the only game on this day and what is bound to be one of the more exciting finishes in a regular season that we have seen in a long time. And quite frankly I think it is within the best intentions of everyone involved that the Blackhawks and the Flyers just stopped playing hockey for the rest of the season and if we have to roll with 30 teams or eliminate a few more teams so that we don't have to watch them play, I am absolutely all for that potential decision making.

I'm not sure especially that we can constitute the last victory on the Ledger for the Blackhawks to even count because it was in overtime against the Arizona Coyotes. If you are in a position where you are only receiving one point, the possibility of it at least, against the Arizona Coyotes, you need to be relegated to the American Hockey League. Since that time, Chicago has lost consecutive games by a final score of 4-1 to the Los Angeles Kings and the San Jose Sharks. The San Jose game happened on Saturday in which it was another horrendous performance from a hockey team which we cannot wait to see the rebuild happen first-hand. Tyler Johnson scored the only goal for Chicago, and that was about the only noteworthy performance that you could have gotten out of this game. because nobody wants to see that goaltending go any further because it is horrendous and Marc-Andre Fleury deserved so much better than that.

"The guys were trying, it's not from a lack of effort," Blackhawks interim coach Derek King said. "I think the one-on-one stuff, guys are trying to beat [opposing players] or trying things that maybe give us a spark... or trying to be the hero and it ends up backfiring sometimes. That's where we need to bring it in and start playing more of a team game when we're down like that."

And when you take into consideration what the Flyers have done to this point, it hasn’t been any better. The only difference is Philly ended its six-game losing streak to a goalie coming off hip surgery. I’m not sure exactly where you see the hope in that, but if you’re the Flyers, you’re grasping for straws at this point. It helps to get James van Riemsdyk on the ice to score twice and remind folks he’s not the waste of $7 million currently on their payroll. But again, I think many of us can score on Carey Price at this current juncture.

"I think it felt the best just to end that losing streak," Flyers forward Bobby Brink said after recording two assists in the 6-3 win over Montreal on Thursday. "It felt good getting the win. I think that we felt even better because we played a good game as a team."

Prediction

It ultimately comes down to which goaltender doesn’t completely forget how to play the sport. You’re choosing between Kevin Lankinen and maybe Martin Jones. Would you expect a 7-6 game? Because I would expect a 7-6 game. Blackhawks somehow win 7-6
