Flyers - Flames preview, prediction and analysis

The Philadelphia Flyers will be playing the Calgary Flames on Monday, February 20 in Calgary.

The Philadelphia Flyers lost against the Vancouver Canucks last Saturday, February 18 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver with a score of 6-2. The Philadelphia Flyers currently rank 7th in the Metropolitan Division.

Scott Laughton and Morgan Frost scored, and Carter Hart made 17 saves for the Flyers (22-25-10), who have lost four straight (0-3-1).

"It's hard to reflect right now, but I thought that there was no quit even though you can look at the score, how it ended up. It's not a reflection of the game," Travis Konecny said. "We worked really hard, we believed in ourselves and they just had a few more bounces that ended up in net."

Anthony Beauvillier put Vancouver ahead 1-0 at 14:24 of the first period, deflecting Schenn's point shot from the left hash marks. Laughton tied it 1-1 at 15:56, deflecting a shot from Justin Braun under the arm of Silovs. It was the first point in 36 games this season for Braun, who dressed as the seventh defenseman and was playing for just the fourth time in the past 23 games.

"He's a great pro and he's a guy that you cheer for, and he just hangs in there," Philadelphia coach John Tortorella said. "I thought he played hard, and good for him."

After two more goals by Vancouver, Frost cut it to 3-2 at 17:28 with a power-play goal. He jammed in a loose puck at the side of the net after Silovs couldn't control a one-timer.

Phillip Di Giuseppe pushed it to 4-2 at 10:04 of the third period, scoring from the same spot after a rebound trickled away from Hart as he dropped to cover it.

"They make a couple of good deflections, and that fourth one is on me," Hart said. "That's one that I got to have. It squirts under my glove and that's the game."

The Philadelphia Flyers have won two of their last 10 games.

The Calgary Flames won against the New York Rangers last Saturday, February 18 at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary with a score of 3-2 in overtime. The Calgary Flames currently rank 5th in the Pacific Division.

Huberdeau had two assists, and Nazem Kadri and Andrew Mangiapane scored eight seconds apart in the opening minute for the Flames (26-19-11), who have lost four of six (2-2-2) since the All-Star break. Jacob Markstrom made 18 saves.

"Every day is a new day," Backlund said. "Every day you've got to recharge between games and come out every game with full-out energy and just leave it out on the ice. It's a [Stanley Cup] Playoff game every game for us. We can't afford to lose too many more. We have to go on a streak here and bring it every night and we'll have a really good chance to win games."

Mangiapane gave Calgary a 1-0 lead 38 seconds into the first period when he split the defense, held off K'Andre Miller and scored around Halak's outstretched left pad on a backhand. Kadri made it 2-0 at 46 seconds, scoring glove side on a one-timer after receiving a pass from Huberdeau at the top of the left circle.

"It's a good team on the other side," Huberdeau said. "We had a really good start and stuck with it. They came back, but we showed some character."

New York scored two goals to tie the game.

Backlund scored 1:28 into overtime. Backlund, who also had an assist, tipped in a shot by Jonathan Huberdeau from the high slot on a power play after Adam Fox was assessed a two-minute minor for high-sticking Dillon Dube 50 seconds into overtime.

"You know my shot ... there's no way that was going in," Huberdeau said. "I saw 'Backs' was wide open -- he works on that every morning skate -- so it paid off this time. That's a huge win for us."

The Calgary Flames have won five of their last 10 games.

Prediction

The Flyers are not good. We have to stop expecting them to be. The Flames are not either, but we should expect them to beat better teams. Flames 5, Flyers 2
