Season Record

Eagles: 5-7 (NFC)
Jets: 3-8 (AFC)

A matchup between losing teams that really has NFL playoff implications.  Philadelphia’s games matter… in NFL Week thirteen of a seventeen game season, the Eagles could still win the division. It would help if the Eagles could win consecutive games.. But they still matter.

The Jets are fooling around with rookie quarterback Zach Wilson.  For entertainment purposes, and with very little help from the supporting cast, the Jets rookie is currently at a better mark for career wins than Troy Aikman at the same time in his career.  It doesn’t matter Monday Night Football or Sunday Night Football… or what teammate goes down with a hamstring or calf injury… it doesn’t matter if the whole offensive line gets the same illness and Zach spends every possession on the receiving end of sacks… It simply matters that he is ready in a year or two when the squad is ready.

Eagles vs Jets Preview and Analysis

RECENT FORM
The Eagles are 5-7 on the season, but 6-6 ATS.  They have logged 6 Overs and 6 Unders.  They are much better on the road than at home with a 4-3 record in road games.  They lost to the New York Giants last week and lost to the -4 point spread.

Offensive Analysis

The Eagles are 13th in the NFL in ppg with 25.3.  They are 14th in tog with 351.1… It breaks down to 30th place in passing yards and 1st in rushing yards.  The rushing yards are tweaked a little bit because QB Jalen Hurts leads the team in rushing… when a pass play breaks down he will scramble for positive yardage.  It doesn't mean they are a great rushing team.

The Jets are terrible on offense.  The stat leaders for the team look like a team in the 7th game of the season…. Not the 13th.  They are 27th in points with 18.1, 23rd in yards with 331.2 per game.  It all breaks down to 11th in passing yards and 29th in rushing yards.  They desperately need to bring in a fullback to either block for zach on the second level or take a quick hand-off when the defense assumes the pass.  Either way the run game isn’t working and a rookie QB can’t pass them into wins.

Defensive Analysis

The Eagles defense is 11th in defending yardage while allowing 341.1 ypg.   They are 11th in defending passing yardage by allowing 228.4 per game. They are 15th in defending points by allowing only 22.8 ppg.  They could be strong in the defensive end if the offense controlled time of possession, but that’s a lot to ask for now.  Next season it might be a strength.

The Jets are sorely missing Carl Lawson.  They need a pass rush to take the pressure off.  The Jets are 31st in defending total yards by allowing 394.9 per game, 29th in defending the pass yardage by allowing 266.2 per game, and 27th in rush defense by allowing 128.7 yards per game.. They are defensively awful.

COACHES

Eagles: Nick Sirianni. Coach Sirianni is in year one of his Eagles chapter.  So far it’s uneven and chaotic.  He is 5-7 which is actually slightly better than prognosticators predicted.  His division (NFC East) is so lousy 5-7 is not unthinkable to win the division if the Dallas Cowboys keep stumbling.

Jets:  Robert Saleh.  Coach Saleh is also in year one of his Jets chapter.  He is getting shellacked at 3-8… but c’mon… c’mon man.  He took over a tire fire and wasn’t given much water to get after it.  He has Quinnen Williams on the D-line, but is missing Carl Lawson who is supposed to be on the other side.  He doesn’t have enough… especially at quarterback.
