Eagles - Texans preview, analysis and prediction

Last week
Eagles: won 35-13 vs. Steelers
Texans: lost 17-10 vs. Titans

The Philadelphia Eagles are going 8-0. We might as well just chalk it up now unless the football gods really want to be cruel to the city of Brotherly Love on this day. The undefeated Eagles, the last undefeated team in the league, are taking their 7-0 start to Houston on a short week to face the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football.

There’s no stopping the Eagles right now. No matter who they’re playing or how they’re playing, they look like a juggernaut at the moment. Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown are now BFFs and will likely continue that against a Houston defense that has given up 403 yards per game and has somehow not collapsed into the turf yet.

The Eagles are coming off a 35-13 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the one-sided battle for Pennsylvania on Sunday. Hurts threw for 285 yards and a career-high four touchdown passes, three of them going to Brown in his 6-catch, 156-yard historic day. If you close your eyes, you can still see Brown pointing at the Pittsburgh secondary and laughing at them maniacally. Even Miles Sanders, in a time where he could’ve been totally forgotten, ran for 78 yards and a touchdown last week. He’s looking for his third straight game with a rushing touchdown.

"I know I can't let him down," Brown said of his quarterback. "We're just having fun and playing for one another. I'm pretty sure he knows that I've got his back and I know he's got mine, too. I think that's exactly what this is."

The addition of Brown has been way more than what the Eagles could’ve asked for. They were already in the money when they drafted Devonta Smith to have Hurts throw many passes to for many years. A disgruntled receiver who wasn’t appreciated in Tennessee ends up in Philadelphia and it suddenly has become the greatest land of misfit toys this side of the Mississippi we’ve ever seen.

The Eagles are averaging 28 points per game while this defense is giving up just a shade under 17. There is reason to think this team can win a Super Bowl, but there are teams within the NFC that may have something to say about that, particularly the Dallas Cowboys when the two meet again on Christmas Eve in Dallas. Buckle up for that one because it might get bumpy.

The Texans lost for the fifth time in six games with a 17-10 loss to the Titans at home. Any sleep the Texans have between now and Thursday are mired by the thoughts of Derrick Henry destroying their team. Henry ran for 219 yards and two touchdowns, looking like his old self, and Davis Mills could not find a way to get the ball into the end zone against Malik Willis in the defeat. It was the fourth straight time the Titans’ star running back ran for 200 yards against the Texans.

"It starts up front," coach Lovie Smith said. "When you get dominated up front on both sides of the football, it's hard to get any game plan going."

It might not be that way in terms of the ground, but the air, I can’t see Houston hanging around.

Prediction

The Eagles are laying two touchdowns on this one and it should be an easy cover. This is going to be another week where Al Michaels slowly crawls into his grave and just wants to retire from calling these atrocious Thursday games. Hurts and Brown have a big day, and it’s 8-0 to let the Eagles fly. Eagles by 24
