Eagles vs Falcons Prediction
The Philadelphia Eagles are meeting with the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday for their first contest of the NFL regular season. Philly finished in dead last of the NFC East last season with a 4-11-1 record overall. They will be looking to improve to a winning season with their new quarterback at the helm. The Falcons also finished dead last of their division, the NFC South, with a 4-12 record overall. They have struggled over the past few seasons and will be looking for a much better end result with their new head coach.
The Eagles did not get off to a good start in their preseason finishing with a winless 0-2-1 record. Luckily the preseason does not mean much for them except for seeing what talent and depth the Eagles players can display on the field. Joe Flacco played a majority of the games for them and he had 2 decent ones and 1 awful one. That will not be the case come week 1 as Jalen Hurts will be taking the reins for the regular season. He does not have a lot of experience playing in NFL games but he might be exactly what this team needs on offense as he was an electric player in college when he was on the field. Hurts has 1 of the best tight ends in the NFL to throw to, Zach Ertz, and he will find ways to make plays for this team himself once the ball gets in his hands. Miles Sanders is quite new to the NFL just like Hurts but he can be just as electric at the running back position and he will be looking to crack that 1,000 yard rushing mark for the first time in his career. They also have a pretty solid run defense with Fletcher Cox leading the way for them looking to rack up as many sacs as possible this season.
The Falcons have been a struggling franchise for a few years now, more specifically since right after they blew a 28-3 lead after halftime in Super Bowl LI just a few years ago, and they have not recovered since. Atlanta also finished the preseason with a winless 0-3 record failing to put up more than 20 points in any of their games. Josh Rosen got a bit of work in this last preseason game but it will be Matt Ryan who remains the starter for this team. They lost Julio Jones to the Tennessee Titans this offseason and that does not help them out in any way. It will be up to Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage to pick up the slack on this offense this year. Mike Davis will be the starting running back and they could definitely use an upgrade there. They also have a rookie head coach at the helm in Arthur Smith. He has plenty of coaching experience in the NFL but his biggest job was being the offensive coordinator for the Titans the past 2 years. He will have to translate that to being a head coach now but his past experience should definitely help improve this offense.
Both of these teams are dealing with some new faces as the Eagles are starting a quarterback with very little NFL experience while the Falcons have a man with very little head coaching experience in charge now. Both teams came in last place of their respective divisions last season and will want to improve on that by making a statement in this game. The Eagles still have a lot of young talent and veteran experience on their offense. The Falcons have lost some good pieces and now have a new coach in town to essentially begin the rebuild. The Eagles are an underdog by about a field goal here on the road and they have a pretty good chance of upsetting this Atlanta side, they might just be worth a bet on the moneyline.

Players to Watch
Philadelphia Eagles: Jalen Reagor and Greg Ward are just 2 of the wide receivers to watch for the Eagles in this one. They both have done alright only playing 3 seasons total between the 2 of them. Ward doubled his receiving yards last season from the previous one in double the amount of games but he made an impact in the end zone going from 1 TD in his 1st season to scoring 6 touchdowns last season. Reagor also had a decent year last season. Now with Hurts as the starter, some of these young guys are bound to have a breakout season this year.
Atlanta Falcons: Matt Ryan is one player to watch in this game. He did not play in any preseason games so it will be interesting to see how he runs this new offense under a new coach who is definitely offensively oriented. This offense has struggled for years and now he has some new faces at the receiver position to learn and get acquainted with.
