What an electric start to the NHL season. So much parity, so many good teams through the first 10-plus games, you have every right to be excited! Of course the Vegas Golden Knights and Boston Bruins (and the New Jersey Devils?) are heading the fun charge here as the top two teams in the league, because of course they are. But never count out the Avalanche, you know they're always going to be hanging around and will be eating worlds once they get everyone healthy. But this is a good time to be playing these hockey games, as well. Look no further than our own Doc's Sports on a 14-7-0 run over the first 30 days of the NHL season. There's also ASA, Inc. posting a 12-5-1 mark through the first month. You know you can trust our champion handicappers to get you across the finish line with your NHL bets. Senators - Kings preview, prediction and analysis

Recent results
Senators: won 5-1 at Ducks
Kings: won 5-2 at Sharks

It has been a rough stretch of games over the last week for the Los Angeles Kings, and realistically for their opponent the Ottawa Senators. There hasn't been this good structure of winning for either of these two teams as of late but both teams are coming off victories in their last game on Friday, and both teams have a chance to put a second wind together under their belt after getting a victory on Friday. Because that's exactly what you want. I guess we'll find out when the two teams meet on Sunday in what could be a springboard for momentum.

Ottawa is coming off a 5-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Friday in which the Senators scored three times on the power play to get a much-needed victory. How badly are we talking about with this win? Ottawa in its last three games prior to that combined scored a grand total of three goals. If you look at Ottawa through a much more desirable lens, you will see how there is no in-between for Ottawa. It's either the Senators are scoring one goal or at least four or five.

That is the way of the land for Ottawa at this point. Ottawa is either going to score a bunch of goals in its game, thanks to the major support system from Brady Tkachuk, Alex DeBrincat or others, or it's going to struggle to score at times because of lofty expectations and the unwillingness to take that next leap as a team with so much to prove.

That's why this book-end situation of a 5 game sample size is so funny because one night Ottawa can look like the team that no one wants to face on any given night, and then suddenly there's a three-game stretch where no one has any right to believe them whatsoever. And that, my friends, makes everything hilarious as it pertains to this kind of next chapter within the Ottawa Senators.

As for Los Angeles, those lofty expectations are only predicated on those who are trying to build off that success from last year. And I don't think anyone's expecting Los Angeles to come back and have himself a strong season. But what is happening right now with Los Angeles is the ability to rely on a number of veterans who have been there and done that and have put themselves in a position to want to play good hockey. And that's why you have a person like Kevin Fiala leading the charge with 22 points this season, 15 of them being assists.

There's still a lot of hockey left to be played here, and Los Angeles is in a weird position to be a very good team toward the end of the regular season, but like most teams that are right there on the cusp of everything happening, it's going to come down to gold technique. And if Jonathan quick and Cal Peterson are not the answers that you're looking for as it pertains to goaltending, then the kings really need to make a decision or two as to how they want to proceed this year.

Prediction

if the production from Cam Talbot is finally going to resonate in some wins for Ottawa, then this might be exactly what Ottawa needs to get going. Talbot has been very good since he's becoming more important mainstay in the goalie rotation, and I expect a big game from him for an Ottawa victory. Senators win 4-2
