Ole Miss - Auburn preview and analysis

Ole Miss analysis

You know who I was thinking about the other day? Marshall Henderson. I really don't know why. Marshall Henderson, for those of you who do not remember, was a talented yet cocky player for the Ole Miss rebels Once Upon a time.

how did not been for Marshall Henderson, I don't think a lot of people would be paying attention to old miss right now. And that's not to say that all miss has just been a dumpster fire of a program the last number of years, but it does go to show that old miss really has not been in the echelon of college basketball for the last number of years and it truly shows.

And yet here we are talking about old miss going against the third-best team in the country, and while all miss does have a win in its most recent game, a 17 point victory over the lowly Georgia Bulldogs, clearly I'm not going to have any reservations and saying that they're going to lose by probably 25 points to the third-best team in the country.

Tye Fagan scored for 20 points on 8 of 17 shooting in Ole Miss’ Victory against the just as bad Bulldogs. And if you need to look any further, Ole Miss shot nearly 56% from the floor and still won despite giving up 48% from Georgia.

In the battle of the toilet bowl in the SEC the winner goes to the loser, and at least for Ole Miss it is not theirs to have to plunge at any given point. At least if there is some solace in old miss being bad, in a year where the SEC is probably going to be at its most dominant that we've seen in many years, what more can we say to the teams that are at the bottom of the barrel?

Auburn analysis

Perhaps things are not as rosy though for the Auburn Tigers after two losses in their last four games. More than likely they have come down to earth a great tad. Losing by 1 to the Florida Gators on Saturday, coupled with losing to the Arkansas Razorbacks in overtime on the road on February 8th, has not been a fun time for Auburn at this point.

In that last of Florida, Auburn lost despite an otherworldly performance from Jabari Smith who had 28 points and seven rebounds. The future top-three pick in this summer's NBA draft has done all he can to lead Auburn to this successful point. Unfortunately, they ran into the most inconsistent team possible in Florida, who should be in the same room as Ole Miss right now because we just don't believe in that team.

In short, you're likely going to see a very angry Auburn team in this game. One that is likely going to just wipe the floor with this team because they are just an angry bunch of folks right now. There is no way to fully understand what the level of talent in college basketball can do this late into the season.

You would think we would get something like that at the beginning of the season, where the top ranked team in the country faces some small school from Delaware and just wipes the floor with him by 60 to 70 points. I don't think it's going to be that extreme because the SCC actually has a talent level that other places in the country do not possess.

Do I think ole miss can beat that team from Delaware? Absolutely. But how many brownie points do you get in an attempt to face off against Auburn at this rate? I'm going to say none.

Prediction

Auburn is opening this game as high as 17 point favorites, and I think you should take every penny whatsoever that you can afford to make this a reality. There is absolutely no way Auburn is losing this game period I will put the mortgage on my fake house on the line to say that Auburn is going to win this game period and if they don't, then Bruce Pearl needs to start doing some sort of exorcism outside of auburn's campus because this would just be horrible.
