The Texas vs Oklahoma rivalry is celebrated in football and a bit of an afterthought in basketball. These Big 12 opponents focus intently on football year after year. Hoping for National Championships and Heisman quarterbacks. In basketball both programs put a quality product on the court, but the blood passion simply isn’t there. It should be. Both these teams have basketball programs worth watching and worth waiting for a trip into March Madness… plus both these football programs are rudderless with question marks at the head coaching. It’s basketball time. So whether you shout “Boomer Sooner!” or “Hook em Horns!” you should really consider watching your basketball team and making some money off them.
In their last game Oklahoma had a big night as they beat #11 in the nation Iowa State 79-66. The Iowa State Cyclones were favored in the matchup as they have two top 25 victories on the season so far, but OU would not be denied. Strong play from freshman Bijon Cortes down the stretch helped put the game away. Cortes finished with 4 pts and 5 assists in just 16 minutes. Umoja Gibson put in a team high 20 points while Elijah Harkless and Tanner Groves each added 15 points. The Sooners now have 8 wins in their last ten games within the two losses coming against the powerhouse Baylor Bears 84-74 and the seasoned Butler Bulldogs in overtime 66-62. During the ten game stretch Oklahoma is 6-4 ATS.
The Texas Longhorns has been a bit of a factory over the last decade… They produce a steady stream of big men into the NBA. Rough and tumble Texas 7-footers litter the league from all-stars to the deep bench. The recruiting prowess at big men simply hasn’t translated into recruiting prowess all over the court. It would behoove Texas to look around the exploding tech industry in Austin to find some dotcom money for name, image, and likeness. Texas boosters always find money for football, but will always be behind Alabama, Auburn, and LSU… in anticipation of joining the SEC… Texas really ought to look at pivoting into a basketball school. They are almost there already! Texas has 8 wins in their last ten games. UT took a beatdown last game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys 64-51… it broke a 6 game winning streak. The other loss in the last ten was to the Seton hall pirates, a school that lives for basketball. Texas needs this game against Oklahoma desperately as it is horrible to think they would lose to both Oklahoma schools back to back.

OFFENSIVE ANALYSIS
The Sooners are 118th in the nation in scoring with 74.7 points per game, 294th in rebounds with 30.3 per game, and 108th in AST/TO ratio with 1.2. They are 3rd in the nation in FG% with 51.2%, that is string shot selection at work. They are 69th in 3PT% with 36.3% and 43rd in FT% with 75.8%... all those shooting numbers are fantastic! It also helps that they are 38th in the nation on defense while only allowing 62.1 points per game from opponents. They may soon find themselves ranked highly if they get enough quality wins against the Big 12.
The Longhorns are 211th in the nation in scoring with 70.7 points per game, 242nd in rebounds with 31.9 per game, and 41sxt in AST/TO ratio with 1.4. They shoot the ball well. 46.4% FG and 77.2% FT… the part that escapes them is from beyond the arc where they hit 33.2% for 208th in the nation. If they increased their percentage from behind the arc (as they did in the win against Iowa State) they could be sitting on a real good season.
