A historical American League Matchup between the worst team in baseball and the best team in baseball.  The reason it is historical is it has been over 8 decades since any team has played any other team with a 29 win difference this early in the summer.  If we jump right to the moneyline… you will see the chasm separating the A’s from the Yankees.  This season the A’s have fully revealed themselves as a team whose own city wants them to move to Vegas… More people attended my high school graduation than the average A’s game this season.  If you visit Oakland and your actual favorite team is the visiting team… you can literally buy a $10 nose-bleed ticket and casually move down to the front row first base line without anyone ever saying “hey that’s my seat”.  In fact the venue prefers that you move down so the one guy selling peanuts and popcorn doesn’t have to run all over the empty stadium.  In high definition contrast the New York Yankees are the best team in baseball, this year and historically!… the tickets at Yankee stadium all get scooped up at a premium price and you can feel greatness in the air.  The Yankees are doing so well this season that other historical comparisons are being made… every day someone says that the last time the Yankees won this much by this day they won the World Series… in this year, and this year, and this year… etc etc.  The Yankees have won 10 more games than the AL West leading Astros, 10 wins more than the NL West leading Dodgers, 12 wins more than the AL Central leading Twins, 13 games more than the NL Central Brewers, and 7 wins more than the fantastic NL East New York Mets… I can’t go on, I’m out of divisions…..This is not much of a matchup… and the bonus is the Yankees are the home team and they get to beat the A’s 3 freaking times 3 freaking times!!  The Yankees won Game 1 on Monday June 27th 9-5… They are currently up 2-0 in the bottom of the 7th in Game 2 on Tuesday night… and will finish off with another big win in THIS game, Game 3 on Wednesday night!  If you bet on the A’;s because of the return on the Moneyline you are buying a ticket with the same bad odds as the lottery… Sure, it’s not impossible… but c’mon?

The Oakland Athletics have only won 3 of their last 10 games… and only against the almost as awful Kansas City Royals.  They went 0-1 against the Yankees, 2-1 against the Kansas City Royals, 0-3 against the Seattle Mariners, and 1-2 against the Kansas City Royals (again). The A’s are the worst hitting team in baseball and bottom five from the mound. There is very little to say about them that won’t be shockingly apparent when you see the numbers below.

The New York Yankees have won 6 of their last 10 games in a bad stretch for them… They thankfully caught a break with the A’s coming to town to right the ship with 3 easy wins in a row.  They went 1-0 against the Oakland Athletics, 2-2 against the often cheating Houston Astros, 2-1 against the Tampa Bay Rays, and 1-1 against the Toronto Blue Jays during that stretch.  The Yankees have that magical combination of great at the plate and great from the mound. It is going to be hard for good teams to get wins off of the Yankees… let alone the… well you get it.

The Yankees pitchers are 2nd in ERA with 2.97, 1st in WHIP with 1.07, and the fielders are on point: 3rd in errors with only 29 on the season so far.

Oakland Athletics vs New York Yankees Prediction

Our prediction for Wednesday, June 29th is…  Yankees 6 - A’s 3

The Yankees will not miss out on winning Game 3 of this series.  The -200 is actually really great odds to lay $500 to $1000 on the Bronx Bombers and get an easy half that in returned profit.  The noted score represents an Over but I do not bet O/U on the Yankees because they have been truly able to win two ways… through scoring a lot… or great pitching… Both the O and the U have been represented with a 34-38-2 record on the season.

MLB Betting Trends

The A’s are 45-78 as an underdog of +100 or higher the last 3 seasons.
The Yankees are 20-2 as a favorite of -200 or more this season.
The Yankees are 16-1 as a home favorite of -200 or more this season.

Players to Watch

Athletics: LHP Cole Irvin, 2-5, 3.29 ERA, 47 strikeouts in 68 innings pitched.  1.24 WHIP. The 28 year old lefty has a losing record for his career and this season.  He will face the Yankees with a 3.29 ERA on the season.  A great game could turn around the course of his career… lol

Yankees: RHP Jameson Taillon, 8-1, 3.19 ERA, 63 strikeouts in 79 innings pitched.  1.11 WHIP.  Jameson is a winner, that is why the Yankees brought him in.  He gets the privilege of pitching to the worst batters in baseball.

Manager:

A’s: Mark “I have a 3 year contract!” Kotsay
Yankees: Aaron “It’s the FRICKIN’ Yankees” Boone
