Season Record

49ers: 3-4 NFC West
Rams: 3-3 NFC West

An NFC West matchup of well seasoned foes.  The 49ers have had the Rams number the last few regular seasons in a row… The Rams have a NFL Championship.  In fact the Rams are the defending World Champions.  The 49ers have had lots of quarterback drama.. They dropped their starter for the year’s prior young hot draft pick who was warming the bench… then they resigned the starter as the back-up… then the young hot draft pick broke his ankle… and now the former starter is the current starter and it is only a few games later.  Weird?... The Rams have the defending Super Bowl Champion QB… who happens to have a medically repaired yet still sore elbow.  The Rams roster still has last years Super Bowl MVP WR Cooper Kupp… and last year’s real star of the SuperBowl DT Aaron Donald.  Yet the Rams have suffered from losing multiple players off last season’s roster and maybe a bit of age.

The San Francisco 49ers are touted as an elite team in not just the NFC but also in the NFL as a whole.  And they have a losing record. In fact QB Jimmy Garapolo has two games this season with an interception, a fumble, and a safety… 2 of only 28 such QB stat lines in the last 30 seasons.  The 49ers lost their last game to the Kansas City Chiefs 44-23.. Lots of teams will lose to KC this season… but they also lost to the Atlanta Falcons 28-14 the week before.  The Saving grace for the 49ers is that the last time they played the Rams was just October 3rd… and the 49ers won big 24-9.  In the meantime the 49ers have added former Panthers and Stanford star RB Christain McCaffrey… while the Rams have added no one.

The Los Angeles Rams have had a very rough start to defending their National Championship. They find themselves at .500 after their first 6 games.  Their offensive rankings across the board are not at all what they were last season… meanwhile the defense still holds up behind stars DT Aaron Donald, CB Jalen Ramsey, LB Bobby Wagner,... but if the lagging offense can’t find another gear… The defense will keep just treading water with good performances in losing efforts.  The Rams biggest problem is a non-existent running game… just 70.5 yards per game!  Next to last in the league!  RB Cam Akers is out for “personal reasons”... truth is he lost the faith of the coaching staff and is on standby if the Rams can find a trade for him… Word is the Rams will take anything.  The trick of course is that the Rams can not afford to give up any more draft picks for the foreseeable future.  After half a decade of tossing draft picks into trades they have nothing left to give.

San Francisco 49ers vs Los Angeles Rams Prediction

Our prediction for Sunday, October 30th is… Rams 24 - 49ers 17

Both teams have intense defenses… but the numbers show that Jimmy G’s numbers are dropping while Matthew Stafford’s numbers are going up.  There could be a bit of a collapse going on in San Francisco.
