Season Record

Jets: 7-8, 4th place AFC East
Seahawks: 7-8, 2nd place NFC West

An NFL interconference battle between two 7-8 teams that have a lot in common.  Both teams started the season strong!  Both teams got their fans excited with their early play… and both teams wilted under the pressure of a long season. The New York Jets wilted the most… in fact the Jets have had a meltdown that involved benching the quarterback that they drafted very high just two seasons ago.  Zach Wilson is not the guy.  Let’s say it again… for the Jets Zach Wilson has been given a lot of chances… and he simply lost the locker room and didn;t have enough arm to keep the QB job.  The Jets are in a weird place as they have a strong defense… a defense that could stymie most any other team… but they don’t have the offense to go with it.  They tried to make it work with Wilson and then moved to Mike White at QB… the team loves Mike White as much as they hate Zach Wilson, but Mike White hurt his ribs and they had to go back to Wilson.  The resulting dumpster fire could be seen from space.  The Seattle Seahawks made out like bandits this last offseason.  They traded Seahawks legend Super Bowl winning QB Russell Wilson for players and picks… The result was a chance for QB Geno Smith to start and a rebuild to start… Instead they got lots of early wins… way more than the Seahawks legend they gave up on.  Plus they have lots of picks going forward to get better with.  But the season is long… and Geno’s early success could not be sustained as soon as defensive coordinators around the league started taking Seattyle seriously.  The Seahawks wilted to 7-8 and out of any real contention. But both teams have a bright future.. You can;t ignore the Jets defense and you can;t ignore the rookies who will grow in Seattle with lots more to join them after the coming draft.

The New York Jets have lost 4 straight games dropping them out of “impressive”.  They lots their last game to the Jacksonville Jaguars 19-3.  The Jacksonville win and cover was predicted here in this column.  The reason was the quarterback play.  In that loss QB Zach Wilson completed 9 of 18 passes for 92 yards and was yanked after yet another interception.  Zach was replaced by 3rd string QB Chris Streveler who completed 10 of 15 passes for 90 yards.  The Jets got ZERO touchdowns all day… and even though the Jets defense held the Jaguars to 19 points… it was still a big win for the Jaguars.  The Jets defense can hurt Seattle… but they will need some support from the offense.

The Seattle Seahawks have lost their last 3 games and are on a 6-game losing ATS streak.  In their last game the Seahawks lost to the Chiefs 24-10… it became one of the few Chiefs games to cover a spread… and it was a big 10.5 spread.  In that loss the Seahawks got 25 of 40 from Geno Smith for 215 yards 1TD and 1 INT.  The Seahawks running game got 107 yards from Kenneth Walker III on 26 carries… The Seahawks defense could not hold up the Chiefs offense all day long.

New York Jets VS Seattle Seahawks Prediction

Our prediction for Sunday, January 1st is… Seahawks 21 - Jets 20

Bet on the Seahawks.  What we have is a battle of a bad offense and good defense (Jets) and a good offense, bad defense (Seahawks)... In the NFL regular season good offense beats bad offense more often than not.  And when the spread is this close… it is worth putting your money the other way.
