A big time battle of terrible teams in the NFC.  The battle is big time because of who these terrible teams are.  The Green Bay Packers lost a dynamic receiver last off-season… and when they signed their first ballot Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers it was for a very large, $50 million, chunk of the salary cap.  The result was the same Super Bowl expectations the Packers have had every year.. But a very thin roster to get it done.  It does not help that management traded away picks and players to get 1 Qb that they never used 3 drafts ago.  Rogers would love to have those picks in the form of weapons… Instead of in the form of the guy who holds his clipboard and calls him “sir”.  The funny part of the Packers is that they are not owned by an owner… they are the only team that is a city owned project… the moment this team stops landing Hall of Fame quarterbacks by accident.. Is the moment that this team will regress into a 50 year nothingness.  The NFL may have to one day force the team out of Green Bay just to get a competent owner and Gm in place.  The Los Angeles Rams were the winners of the very last Super Bowl.  They got there by mortgaging the future… The future came real quick.  The Rams were not good with only their three stars QB Matthew Stfford, WR Cooper Kupp and DT Aaron Donald… but now the poor saps are without any of those guys?... What are they supposed to do?… well they won their last game with… (cough)... with (cough)... Baker Mayfield as their quarterback!  It’s an odd year for the Rams.  The great betting opportunity will be found in exactly whose demise you feel is more readily apparent.  Let’s look at the numbers and make some money.

The Los Angeles Rams snapped a 6-game losing streak with a win over the Las Vegas Raiders 17-16… They have also won the last 3 games ATS.  The Rams are spent and panting hard.  The season can not end quick enough for them.  The big problem for the Rams is the hit they took EVERYWHERE.  They lost Offensive line and didn’t replace it… they lost running back quality by using the same running backs… they lost quarterback quality through injury that may be chronic.. They lost WR quality by signing Allen Robinson III and seeing an injury to Cooper Kupp…. And the worst thing of all is they lost how effective DT Aaron Donald was rushing the quarterback by not having anyone doing it on the other side of the line… The Rams are bad.  In their last win the Rams QB BAKER MAYFIELD who was picked up on waivers the day before a game… completed 22 of 35 passes for 230 yards with 1 TD.  That was it.  They also got a TD from RB Cam Akers who had 42 rushing yards on the day. The offense was quiet.. But against the Raiders? You just don’t need to be too loud.

The Green Bay Packers won their last game 28-19 over the Chicago Bears… but they are only 3-7 over their last 10 games.  They are not relevant this season.  The Bears win should have been obvious because QB Aarpon Rogers has owned the Bears for years and years. In that game Rogers completed 18 of 31 passes for 182 yards with 1 TD.  Aaron was able to clear his drug addled brain long enough to have a barely OK day against a lousy team.  RBs Christain Watson and AJ Dillon also ran for a TD each.  The saving grace for the Packers was the defense who plucked 2 INTs from the Bears and overall held them out of real scoring opportunities.

The Packers are 23rd in scoring with 20.2 points per game, 15th in total yards with 345.6 per game, 16th in passing yards with 220.2 per game, and 12th in rushing yards with 125.4 per game.

The Rams defense is 13th in defense of total yards with 330.5 per game allowed, 21st in defense of passing yards with 228.6 per game allowed, 5th in run defense with 101.9 yards allowed per game, and 16th in defense of points with 22.8 per game allowed.

The Packers defense is 18th in total yards with 347.7 allowed per game, 5th in defense of passing yards with 192.9 per game allowed, 30th in defense of rushing yards with 154.8 per game allowed, and 21st in defense of points with 23.2 per game allowed.

Our prediction for Monday, December 19th is…. Packers 23 - Rams 20

 

Bet on the Rams.  It is the right time to do so… New Rams QB Baker Mayfield has never thrown a ball to Cooper Kupp… so he won’t be reliant on him like all the other Rams QBs were… instead he will simply do what he can with what he can… and that will be against a bad Packers defense.  Sure the Packers may and should win… but by 7?... Nah keep those points for yourself.
