Hot young quarterbacks making BIG money square off in this inter-conference matchup.  The Kansas City Chiefs won the AFC West last season behind the play of Patrick Mahomes and his high flying fast charging weapons.  The fastest among the weapons, WR Tyreek Hill, left for a greener uniform in Miami.  This led to a scramble to restock the shelves that found the Chiefs bringing in WR Juju Smith-Schuster and WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling.  The Chiefs will have a whole new look… will they be as good?... Will they be better?.  The worry is that maybe Mahomes has regressed a bit.  He was beaten in the Playoffs last year by Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.  The Arizona Cardinals is led by star, miniature QB Kyler Murray.  This kid is fast, this kid is tough, this kid has a tendency to wear down by the end of the season.  Last season Kyler and the Cards had an early win over the Los Angeles Rams… when they met again much later the Rams beat the Cards easily and kept on trucking all the way to a Super Bowl Championship.  This offseason was rough for Kyler and the Cards… It was an eerily similar feeling to Kyler’s draft a few years back… When Kyler was drafted the Cardinals were given an ultimatum to draft him early or Kyler would walk to play baseball.  It worked, the Cardinals scooped Kyler with the #1 pick!... This last offseason the Cards were again given an ultimatum… Kyler wanted a BIG new Contract or he might hold out… He might not show up for Camp… he might not be happy.  The Kyler criticism from his 2019 draft was brought up again 1) the guy is small, 2) He doesn’t do his homework, 3) He is simply not a solid leader 4) He will get hurt…. After weighing all their options… The Cardinals decided Kyler would get the money in a BIG New Contract.  They also decided to add an insulting clause in the Contract that Kyler do actual film study.  Kyler signed for BIG money… and then his agent made the clause public which embarrassed the Cardinals and it was dropped.  Long story short:  Kyler is talented enough to simply keep him and keep trying.

Patrick Mahomes was drafted in 2017 and has since made 4 Pro-Bowls, won a Super Bowl, won Super Bowl MVP, and has built a career passer rating of 105.8.

Kyler Murray was drafted in 2019 and has made 2 Pro-Bowls, was NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and has built a career passer rating of 93.9… His superpower is the rushing aspect of his game which has amassed 1,786 yards for 20 touchdowns.

The Cardinals are 6-0 ATS as an underdog of 3.5 to 9.5 points. That streak will be broken.  They are going up against the Chiefs who did lose Tyreek Hill (their best receiver), but the Cards also lost their best receiver in Deandre Hopkins suspension.  The difference is that the Chiefs got players and picks in return for Hill… while the Cards of course got nothing for Hopkins absence.  Plus you already know that the best story for the Sports Media will be for Kyler Murray to start the season with a loss after much ado was made about his contract negotiations.  You can already see the tweets (Did Kyler Watch Any Film?).

 

The bet is for the Chiefs to cover the spread.  You may be tempted to take the OVER… but hold off betting the Over for either of these teams until you see how they operate with the missing receivers.
