Season Record

Jaguars: 4-8, 3rd place AFC South
Titans: 7-5, 1st place AFC South

An NFL AFC South matchup with a short and easy point spread.  The Tennessee Titans have been in the lead of the AFC South all season long… that is not a terribly hard thing to do since the AFC South is populated with 3 other cream puffs… The Indianapolis Colts, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the woeful Houston Texans.  The Titans have had the run of their neighborhood… but aren’t the sort of team that seems tough enough to challenge kids from any other neighborhood.  The Titans have a very soft offense.. Routinely falling in the bottom 5 of most of the major statistical categories in the league… They are saved by a running game that still takes advantage of the massive talent of RB Derrick Henry who has 1078 rushing yards with an extra little bump of 286 receiving yards in 12 games so far. The Titans QB is the mysterious Ryan Tannehill.. Is he good? He plays for a winning team..  Yeah but is he any good? The Jacksonville Jaguars are not the slightest bit mysterious… They are a bad team in a bad division.  The Jaguars young QB, former #1 pick in the draft, Trevor Lawrence is very good.  He is and not just from his college hype either.  He is a big kid that can hit throws to all three levels of the field.  He desperately needs a better offensive line to see how much better he can be than the 2834 passing yards, 17 TDs, 6 INTs (he has also rushed for 3 TDs) in 12 games so far… Of course… Trevor is hurt.  We do not know yet if his left foot injury sustained in the last game will hold him out.  He is listed as Probable… but this week’s practices will fully answer that question.  Trevor’s offense is middle of the road… It’s his lousy defense that holds the team back.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have won only 3 of their last 10 games.  They have bottomed out and will not likely be seen in the postseason… yet again.  They lost their last game to the Detroit Lions 40-14… it was a public spanking. In that game Trevor completed 17 of 31 passes for 179 yards and 1 TD… He left the game briefly with a foot injury as backup QB Chris Breatherd completed 2 of 3 passes for a whopping 6 yards.  If Trevor is even slightly hobbled the Jaguars should hold him out of the game… Why risk the future?  At 4-8 the team is not likely to turn the last 5 games of the season into anything but the same scrimmages we have been seeing.  This free agent offseason and upcoming draft should be all about the offensive Line for the Titans.  The Titans need upgrades on the line just to keep Trevor safe.  The conventional thinking would be to draft defense to improve this lousy defensive team… but no.  This team needs as firm pocket for Trevor to perform in… everything else should be on the backburner.

The Tennessee Titans still have now.  They are relevant as a 7-5 team that leads the AFC South. They are unfortunately on a 2-game losing streak but both those teams are really good.  The Eagles and the Bengals.  They lost their last game to the Philadelphia Eagles 35-10… a big and bad loss. QB Ryan Tannehill completed only 14 of 22 passes for 141 yards and 1 TD… Ryan’s backup Malik Willis completed 2 of 4 for 16 yards.  The Eagles defensive backs gave both QBs fits in passing situations.  The Titans did what they always do and tried to get RB Derrick Henry going… but his 11 carries only produced 30 yards.  The entire Eagles defense came to play and there was very little the Titans could do about it.  Playing the Jaguars immediately after the Eagles will feel like when you are at the gym and take a bunch of weight off the bar.  So much easier… so much better… almost a relief even though you are still lifting.

Jacksonville Jaguars VS Tennessee Titans Prediction

Our prediction for Sunday, December 11th is…. Titans 24 - Jaguars 17

Bet on the Titans.  If Trevor Lawrence is even a bit hobbled by foot pain.. The Jaguars will have very little going for them.  These Titans beat Green Bay, they beat Washington, and they took Kansas City to overtime… they will handle the Jaguars and the small 3.5 point spread.
