Season Record

Cardinals: 3-6, 4th place NFC West
Rams: 3-5, 3rd place NFC West

An NFC West battle of two teams that have certainly not met up to the hype!  They also have very shaky and uncertain quarterback statuses.  The NFC West is crazy this season with the Seattle Seahawks firmly in first place and the San Francisco 49ers (they of super bowl roster) firmly notched at .500 with a 4-4 record.  But this matchup is about the underperforming Rams and the underperforming Cardinals.   The Arizona Cardinals signed quarterback Kyler Murray in the offseason to a HUMONGOUS extension… and they put in a very responsible “please do your homework” clause… They were later shamed into dropping the clause… As of press time I will tell you honestly that every member of the front office wishes they had passed on the Giant contract and simply used the money in other places. QB Kyler Muray is very talented… but he is small… he runs and gets hit… and he simply will not have the ability to not get hurt from time to time…. Oh and he is potentially hurt to the point of missing a game now.  The Los Angeles Rams are the defending Super Bowl Champions… they still remember making confetti snow angels just half a year ago.  Then the Rams had to decide who to give raises to and who to get rid of because they couldn’t afford them any longer… They gave the raises to the right people… WR Cooper Kupp and DT Aaron Donald… but they sorely miss the players that are gone.  If this same team had traded Donald they would have been paid a KING’s ransom for him… players and picks… and they could have kept some of the guys that are gone… PLUS the Rams also signed Allen Robinson II to a 30 million dollar guaranteed contract over a few seasons… They now want every dollar of that contract back … so they could upgrade the walking dead offensive line. At the moment the Rams also have a hurt quarterback who they are not sure will play.  QB Matt Stafford (who also is a big hit in the cap) has a degenerative elbow injury most closely linked to MLB pitchers on their way out of the league.  What is the great betting opportunity if neither starting QB plays?... What if one of them does and the other does not?... what if they both play?. Let’s check the numbers and try to figure out a 1.5 to -1.5 point spread.

The Arizona Cardinals are on the road and suffering from a two-game losing streak that is part of losing 4 of their last 5 games.  The NFC West Seattle Seahawks gave the Cardinals two of the losses in the last 5 games. On the season the Cardinals are 4-5 ATS. The Cardinals lost their last game to the Seahawks (completing a Seahawks sweep on the season) in a game where the defense scored a touchdown from an interception.  That is hard… It means the offense could not keep up with the Seahawks game. With 3:32 left in the 4th quarter the score was Seahawks 24 to Cardinals 21… The Cardinals needed a stop and a filed goal and got neither.  The Cardinals did not get the stop thanks to both a (Seahawks) Noah Fant 51 yard catch… a JJ Watt offsides and soon the game finished with a Seattle touchdown and a final score of 31-21.  Two 4th quarter sacks of Kyler Murray by Bruce Irvin and Shelby Harris led to a thinking that in big moments Kyler is too small… also we all already thought that.

The Los Angeles Rams lost their last game to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 16-13… The big problem with the loss was they had the game won!  WR Cooper Kupp slid to keep the clock running with less than two minutes left in the game… The slide prevented a first down (that he obviously could have gotten)... which led to a punt.. Which led to a Tom Brady comeback as time dwindled out.  Sad really.  The Rams have lost 4 of their last 5 games.. And the Rams season is essentially over.  Sure Mathematically they could go on a romp of winning.. But in all likelihood last season’s Champs will not be in the playoffs.  QB Matt Stafford is out or could be out?  Those are the two choices based on his medical evaluations.  In order for Matt to play he would need an unfeeling and unthinking franchise to force him out there.  The Rams should not want him to play.

Arizona Cardinals VS Los Angeles Rams Preview and Analysis

RECENT FORM
ARI: 3-6, 4-5 ATS, 4-5 O/U, 2-2 on the road.
LAR 3-5, 2-5-1 ATS, 2-6 O/U, 2-3 in home games.

Offensive Analysis

The Cardinals are 16th in scoring with 22.6 points per game, 12th in total yards with 337.7 per game, 17th in passing yards with 220.7 per game, and 17th in rushing with 117 per game.

The Rams are 29th in scoring with 16.4 points per game, 31st in total yards with 286 per game, 21st in passing yards with 217.6 per game, and 31st in rushing yards with 68.4 per game.

The Rams offense is not anything to write home about.. Nor is it any good at all. At this point a backup quarterback may force Head Coach Sean McVay to try to be creative with the running game,  The Rams are the rare team that could perform better with a limited backup quarterback… especially considering Matt Staffoird has had this elbow injury all season.

Defensive Analysis

The Cardinals defense is 26th in defending total yards by allowing 368.9 per game, 25th in defending passing yards with 253.4 per game, 13th in defending rushing yards with 115.4 per game, 31st in defense of point scored with 26.8 allowed per game.

The Rams defense is 8th in defense of total yards with 312.4 per game, 17th in defense of passing yards with 214 per game, 4th in defending rushing yards with 98.4 per game, and 17th in defense of points scored with 21.6 per game.

Arizona Cardinals VS Los Angeles Rams Prediction

Our prediction for Sunday, November 13th is… Rams 27 - Cardinals 22

Bet on the Rams.  Colt McCoy has served as a capable backup in Kyler Murray absences…. However the Rams defense is simply not in question. Whether Colt or Kyler plays, the Cardinals still have to put up “their” 22 points a game against a defense that is doing fine… The reverse is whether Matt Stafford or his backup QB John Wolford tries to score against a terrible Cardinals defense.
