Game 2 of this Yankees vs Blue Jays matchup. Game 1 will go off tonight.  The prediction is already in.  We have the Yankees winning on the moneyline.  Wednesday’s game is the focus of this prediction.

An American League East battle between familiar foes.  The New York Yankees got out to a great start… almost a historic start… to the 2022 season.  Everyone was enamored with what obviously looked like a World Series season.  Then late summer hit them hard… The Yankees got lapped by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the cheating Houston Astros, and the city sharing New York Mets… But not all joy was lost because the Yankees still clearly had possession of first place in the AL East… In fact they are 8.5 games up on 2nd place.  Also the Yankees are partaking in a fun version of history making as Star Slugger Aaron Judge has awakened history by hitting 60 home runs.  He is playing the Babe Ruth role to a tee.  He will soon pass Roger Maris… and he will hit more.  The reason this is so great is that Judge is perceived as “clean”... meaning ball players are tested so much that everyone thinks or knows that he is doing it without the use of steroids. (time will tell).  That makes the “other guys” … Bonds, Maguire, and Sosa… sort of not in the conversation.  If Aaron finishes with 65 (as an example).. Most Yankee fans… and most of baseball will perceive him as the best home run hitter ever.  The Toronto Blue Jays on the other hand are just a good team waiting to gel at the right time.  They are 8.5 games behind the Yankees but will play a 3-game series against them.  For Toronto this is the ultimate opportunity… a 3-game SWEEP means they advance 6 games toward the #1 spot… a 2-1 finish means they pick up 4 games with 12 games left to play…. Anything less and they will be putting nails in their own coffin.  By coffin I don’t mean death… I mean any chance of overtaking the Yankees.  That should make the Blue Jays eminently motivated.

The New York Yankees have won 8 of their last 10 games.  They beat up on the Red Sox both recently and historically.  They are playing to packed houses as Aaron Judge keeps knocking dingers.  They have a great combination of 2nd in scoring with GREAT pitching.  They trail only the Dodgers in all categories and will not have to worry about THEM until/if they reach the World Series.  The recent winning comes at a perfect time as this team really stumbled in August.  The last ten games they went 3-0 against the Boston Red Sox, 1-0 against the Pittsburgh Pirates, 1-2 against the Milwaukee Brewers, 2-0 against the Boston Red Sox (again), and 1-0 against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Toronto Blue Jays are entering the series that will make or break their season… with so few games left they will be going head to head 3 times with the division leader that has them by 8.5 games.  Winning doubles the stakes… no whammies! However losing doubles the stakes also.  They have won only 5 of their last 10 games.  They have been allowing the Yankees to create big separation and this is their last chance to catch up.  They have gone 1-2 against the Tampa Bay Rays, 0-1 against the Philadelphia Phillies, 2-1 against the Baltimore Orioles, and 2-1 against the Tampa Bay Rays… dropping a game here and there down the stretch is what continually keeps them out of the winners circle.  This is a great hitting team with average pitching.  A formula for a lot of wins but no big wins.  They need to dig deep.

New York Yankees vs Toronto Blue Jays Prediction

Our prediction for Wednesday, September 28th is… Yankees 8 - Blue Jays 3

The Yankees have not been a stellar bet over the last 30 days of action.  In fact they have lost a lot of games… They have put the Dodgers and the Astors in a position of power in the MLB… and let’s not forget the Mets.   Still, the Yankees are clear division winners… so they will win lots of actual real games you can make money off of.  The bet is for the Yankees on the moneyline. Plus the Yankees pitching matchup is an absolute benefit.

Players to Watch

Yankees:  RHP Gerrit Cole, 12-7, 3.49 ERA, 244 strikeouts in 188 innings pitched. 1.03 WHIP.  Gerrit is a real ACE for the Yankees.  His WHIP is great, his wins are good.

Blue Jays: RHP Mitch White, 1-6, 5.12 ERA, 73 strikeouts in 91 innings pitched, 1.41 WHIP.  Mitch has almost nothing in the tank.  The 27 year old has been eviscerated as a starter all year. Huh?
