Yankees - White Sox preview and analysis

Good luck trying to find a hotter bat right now than Gleyber Torres for the New York Yankees.

A walk-off homer early in the week in a double header against the Texas Rangers, and then follows that with driving in all five runs in a 5-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. Now, the Yankees will move on with facing the Chicago White Sox on Thursday taking place in Chicago.

Torres hit a three-run home run and delivered with a two-run single to push the Yankees over the team that’s trailing them in the American League East. DJ LeMaheiu also had two hits, and Jameson Taillon went 5.1 innings and struck out four.

“So good,” Torres said. “Especially versus those guys; it’s a huge series for us. Every time I get an opportunity, I try to do my thing and help. That is the mentality for me.”

But more importantly, the Yankees are 22-8 for the first time since 2003. You know about 2003 if you’re a Yankees fan. It was a time in where New York was running a dynasty. Only this team might actually have more pop and talent in the lineup than those Yankees dynasty teams from the early 2000s.

If anyone would know how those teams operated, it’d be manager Aaron Boone.

“I caution that we’re 30 games into this,” Boone said. “I do feel like in every area, we’re strong -- and probably more complete than in previous years. I think [we’re] the whole package -- we really feel like we can win a game a lot of different ways.”

What say you, Brian Cashman?

“Criticism comes with the territory. Our players have to deal with that all the time,” he said. “The only thing that matters is going out there and winning. These guys are winning their games right now. It’s great to see and it makes it easier to sleep at night.”

So, safe to say the Yankees are killing it right now. Aaron Judge continues to look like the early favorite for AL MVP with the way he’s mashing the baseball, and of course he’s almost at a .300 average. One can only wonder what this will look like if this trajectory continues.

But the Yankees will be facing a rested Chicago team after their Wednesday game against the Cleveland Guardians was postponed due to COVID cases in the Cleveland organization.

Prediction

I’m leaning toward the home team here. Getting a day off and another day to prepare for the best team in the American League, and sending a red-hot Dylan Cease to the mound against Luis Gil, I’ll take the home team in this first game. White Sox win 5-4
