A non-conference NBA matchup of dashed hopes versus newfound purpose.  The New York Knicks were a surprise feel good story last year, surprise new best player in PF Julius Randle, playoffs for the first time in a long time, even a few playoff wins… that was nice!  This season they are back in the Draft Lottery.  The winning has all come to an end.  The team stinks again and the Knicks fans are booing their own team at home again.  The Knicks players will love being in Los Angeles and playing at Crypto.com Arena… because it is far away from their awful fans.  The Clippers are in a very sorry state for a franchise.  Over the last 3 seasons they have moved Heaven and Earth to load a roster with two great NBA all-stars.  They landed SG Kawhi Leonard and SF Paul George.  Both great players, both multiple time all-stars, both Max money players.  Then Kawhi went down with a major injury that has so far kept him out this entire season… Paul George played great in his absence for awhile, but has also gone down with injury.  Then the Clippers traded for another quality and highly paid swingman in SF Norman Powell.. Who immediately went down with injury (after having 26 points in his team debut)... so what did the remaining roster do?  Did they quit?.. Did they start making early vacation plans?... No, they dug deep.  The Clippers are winning… and fighting and clawing with over $100 million of salary cap money sitting on the injury list.  PG Reggie Jackson is a revelation, backup Center Isaiah Hartenstein plays as well as a starting Center, bench scorer Luke Kennard drains threes with ferocity and magically pours it on in the 4th quarter.  The Clippers are Giant Killers with a couple giants sitting on their own bench in street clothes.  If the three guys do get back (most likely 2 of the 3) for the playoffs this will be a whole other team.

The New York Knicks have only won ONCE in their last ten games.  They are 2-8 ATS.  They were the victims of 8 Overs and just 2 Unders during that stretch.  They have dropped to 12th in the Eastern Conference standings.  PF Julius Randle leads the team in points, rebounds, assists, and blocks… C Nerlens Noel snuck up and took away the steals category… but Julius is still the only Knick playing at an all-star level.  Even if he didn’t make the all-star team.  The Knicks should move on from Julius Randle… Last season’s love affair with the fans has turned into a two-way hate fest.  The fans would rather Obi Toppin be given the starting Power Forward job and Julius would do much better on another team with different fans.

The Los Angeles Clippers are on a five-game winning streak.  They have won 7 of their last ten games. They have gone 7-3 ATS during the stretch… The three losses were to the Dallas Mavericks, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Phoenix Suns… all quality teams with MVP level players.  The Clippers handle most of what is thrown at them.  The Clippers this season went 4-0 versus the Lakers, a point of pride that still has the team beaming.

The Clippers should handle the Knicks.  The numbers point to it… as does every Knicks game so far.  The Knicks are bad at covering when they are favored and bad at covering when they are underdogs.  Oddly their only 2 wins ATS over the last ten games were against the Golden State Warriors and the Phoenix Suns… two of the best teams in the entire league.  So while the Knicks are not winners and not winning… They are capable of putting up a fight in the biggest games.  The Clippers don’t specifically fall into that category.  This will be a run of the mill Clippers win and cover the spread.
