Season Record

Jets: 2-8, tied for last place AFC
Texans: 2-8, tied for last place AFC

A matchup of the two of the worst teams in football right now… The Detroit Lions are the worst, but these squads are close. The Jets are on a three-game slide with rookie quarterback Zach Wilson getting zero help from the offensive line.  The Texans don’t even have a quarterback. Davis Mills does the job of QB during Texans games, but he is a stop-gap guy until the franchise can figure out how to solve their Desaun Watson problem.

Jets vs Texans Preview and Analysis

RECENT FORM
The New York Jets are 2-8 on the season and 2-8 ATS.  They have logged 6 Overs and 4 Unders.  They are a disastrous 0-4 in road games.  The Jets have suffered numerous blowout losses this season to the Buffalo Bills 45-17, the New England Patriots 54-13, Denver Broncos 26-0, the New England Patriots again 25-6… and a shocking win over the Cincinnati Bengals 34-31 and another staggering overtime win over the Tennessee Titans 27-24.

The Houston Texans are 2-8 on the season and 5-5 ATS.  They have notched 4 Overs and 6 Unders.  They are 1-3 in home games.  They have beaten exactly two teams this season… The Jacksonville Jaguars 37-21 and the Tennessee Titans 22-13… (the Tennessee Titans have a tendency to lose to bad teams, could be Ryan Tannehill).  The other 8 losses are chock full of shocking losses as well Ari 31-5, Ind 31-3, Buf 40-0, the Carolina Panthers before Cam Newton returned 24-9!  This has been a bad team… and now they are favored by 2.5 points which is about what the home team starts with when compiling a point spread.

Offensive Analysis

The Jets are 27th in the league in ppg with 17.8, 23rd in ypg with 337.7.  They are much better in the passing game (9th) than the run game (29th).  Maybe people see that coming?... Maybe the Jets should give their rookie QB a break and let him hand the ball off to anyone willing to take it.

The Texans are the worst offensive team in the whole NFL… really they are!  They are 32nd in pts scored 15, 32nd in yards gained 271.1 per, 31st in passing and 32nd in rushing… Terrible numbers all around.  Bad team.  Still this is exactly the type of team the Jets were built to lose to.

Defensive Analysis

The Jets are the worst on defense… seriously.  They are 32nd in defense of total yards 414.2 per, 32nd in defending pass yardage 282.2 per, and 32nd in points allowed with 32.1 per.  The run defense is slightly better at 28th in the league.  In the offseason just before this season the Jets broke the bank signing top flight players all over the field.  The big DE Carl Lawson that was gonna change it all for the Jets tore his achilles before the season began, this could have been a very different team in all these categories had the Jets stayed healthier than they have.

The Texans are also bad on defense.  They are 30th in defending yardage giving up 389.3 per game, 27th in pass defense, 30th in rush defense, 29th in points allowed with 27.1.

New York Jets vs Houston Texans Prediction

Our prediction for Sunday, November 28th is….   Texans 21 - Jets 14

The Jets are in a tailspin.  The Texans aren’t good either, but Davis Mills won’t get hit as hard or as often as Zach Wilson.

COACHES

Jets: Robert Saleh.  Coach Saleh is in his first year as the head coach of this dumpster fire.  He had been the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator in the three years prior.  Hopefully he gets to keep his job through the re-build.

Texans: David Culley.  Coach Culley is also in his first year as the head coach of this southern dumpster fire.  He had previously been an assistant coach with the Baltimore Ravens.  It would be a fun thought experiment if Coach Culley and Coach Saleh simply switched teams for a week to see what the results would be…. Hopefully coach Culley gets to keep his job through Houston’s rebuild.
