And so far, it's been a fun season to be had by all with just one undefeated team left. Will this week be the week the Eagles fall? You'll have to see what our champion handicappers think of such an idea, especially our own Wayne Root who is 30-13-1 through the first five weeks of the NFL season. Jets - Broncos preview, analysis and prediction

Last week
Jets: won 27-10 at Packers
Broncos: lost 19-16 (OT) at Chargers

Let’s take you back to before the season began, and you had to look at this matchup a month from now. One team would be 2-4 and an utter disappointment, and one would be 4-2 because of its stout defense. I guarantee you that you wouldn’t have had the Denver Broncos sitting at 2-4 and being the biggest disappointment in the NFL, and you wouldn’t be thinking of the New York Jets at 4-2 and on a three-game winning streak … and second place in the AFC East. None of it makes sense, but it’s the life we live in at the current moment. And now the Broncos are dealing with some serious injury issues – more notably with Russell Wilson – and the cliff dive is getting ever so close to hitting the ground.

I’m not quite sure what happened after losing to the Cincinnati Bengals the way they did, but the Jets have reeled off three straight wins, two of them on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers. The win over the Miami Dolphins, in which they put up 40 points, can be overlooked with the Dolphins down to their third-string quarterback. But the wins over the Steelers and Packers are absolutely impressive and they need to be admired as such. Sure, the Jets may not get anywhere with Zach Wilson still trying to develop as an NFL quarterback, but they’re winning with a ground game and defense – something reminiscent of the Rex Ryan days. Rookie running back Breece Hall continued his strong start with 116 yards and a touchdown n 20 carries, while the defense held Aaron Rodgers to just 26 of 41 for 246 yards and a touchdown. I get the Packers’ offense has not been the same since trading Davante Adams to Las Vegas, but man, the Packers are clearly missing someone like him. The Jets absolutely took advantage and dominated that game.

"It just shows that we're trending upwards," said Hall, a second-round pick who was a record-setter at Iowa State and has continued that trend into his first NFL campaign. "I feel like a lot of people expected that it would be a surprise if we won this game, but we expected to come in and win this game."

The Jets have held their last three opponents to 20 points or less, with the total decreasing each week from 20, 17 and 10. Considering now they get to face a Broncos offense that is beyond all normal comprehension right now, they have to feel really good with a chance to push this winning streak to four games.

Because the Broncos are an absolute mess right now with no true direction of life staring them in the face. Denver has not been able to put up points with Nathaniel Hackett being their head coach, and the Russell Wilson experience has been anything but a positive one. Denver is coming off its second straight overtime loss, and third in a row, 19-16 to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football. The Broncos had a 10-point lead and lost the game. That’s all you need to know about losing to a Chargers team that didn’t have Keenan Allen to injury. Wilson was held to just 188 yards and a touchdown on 15 of 28 passing, and the offense put up just 258 yards while the defense did all it could once again.

"We felt like we could have won the game, and then we had the fluke play at the end. It didn't work out, but everybody is together," Wilson said.

Let’s ride, right, Russ?

Wilson is dealing with a hamstring issue that could force him to miss this game. If that happens, you might as well end all things now.

Prediction

So, yeah. The Jets. Take them, and take them hard. They’re even getting points. Do it. Jets by 10
