What an electric start to the NHL season. So much parity, so many good teams through the first 10-plus games, you have every right to be excited! Of course the Vegas Golden Knights and Boston Bruins are heading the fun charge here as the top two teams in the league, because of course they are. But never count out the Avalanche, you know they're always going to be hanging around and will be eating worlds once they get everyone healthy. But this is a good time to be playing these hockey games, as well. Look no further than our own Doc's Sports on a 14-7-0 run over the first 30 days of the NHL season. There's also ASA, Inc. posting a 12-5-1 mark through the first month. You know you can trust our champion handicappers to get you across the finish line with your NHL bets. Islanders - Senators preview, prediction and analysis

Recent results
Islanders: won three of four; won 4-3 (OT) vs. Blue Jackets on Saturday
Senators: won 4-1 at Flyers on Saturday

There’s so much parity right now in the NHL that it’s kind of insane. Sidney Crosby was just talking about it not too long ago. When you look at the standings and you see the teams we’ve talked about for the last couple of weeks, you’re not surprised. And then you see the New York Islanders going 8-2-0 in their last 10 and you’re once again shocked at what’s going on.

The Islanders will try to win for the fourth time in five games when they visit the Ottawa Senators on Monday. The Islanders are hitting the road after winning 4-3 in overtime against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday, much thanks to Zach Parise scoring the game-winning goal in overtime. It also helped that the Blue Jackets started OT with three forwards and it only took 39 seconds.

"We all saw that those three guys went out, and they're dangerous offensively, but you know when there's going to be a turnover, they might be a little slower getting back," Parise said. "So when that puck did turnover, we were ready to jump on the offense. But again, you have to make sure you're marking up defensively.

"I think [Laine] when he got the (delayed) penalty, he just kind of gave up on the play it felt like, so I was able to get a step on him, and [Pageau] did a really good job of showing the shot. I think he froze the goalie really well, and then I was able to get one in pretty much into an open net."

The Islanders had a tough year last year and made the decision to move on from Barry Trotz. So far, through 16 games, Lane Lambert has looked like a quality coach and the Islanders have found ways to win. It helps to have a really good goalie with Ilya Sorokin manning the net.

But you can never count out the Senators, even though they’re on a bit of a struggle point right now with losing seven of eight. But that one win came on Saturday against the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-1, in Claude Giroux’s return to Philly. Giroux had three assists and Alex DeBrincat scored twice in what was a dominant win for the Sens, a much-needed dominant victory after losing seven in a row.

Giroux was the captain of the Flyers for 10 years and he came back to Philly, with coach John Tortorella looking dumb, and putting up assists like it was nothing and like he had done it in that building before.

"He's been the face of the franchise for X-amount of years now and it's awesome to see him come back, see the warm welcome he got," DeBrincat said. "He obviously wanted that one a lot. We battled hard out there. He played a great game and kind of led us out there."

Prediction

The Islanders have a great tandem in Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov and right now it’s to the point where it doesn’t matter who you put in net: They’re going to make life tough on this group. Ottawa needs to string some consistency together before I trust them against a top team. Islanders win 3-1
