New York Islanders vs Florida Panthers Preview and Analysis
New York Islanders: lost on the road on Oct. 14 against the Carolina Hurricanes 6-3.
Florida Panthers: won at home on Oct. 14 against the Pittsburgh Penguins in overtime 5-4.
New York Islanders Analysis
The Islanders are coming into this game with 0 points and a 0-1-0 record to start their season. They lost their season opener on Thursday night against the Hurricanes 6-3. They are currently waiting for their new arena to be built so they are starting their regular season off with a 13 game road trip, this will be the 2nd game of that road trip. They were trailing in their game against the Hurricanes for most of it before Carolina really pulled away in the 3rd period. Kyle Palmieri led the team in points with 2 in that game. He led the team in assists with 2 while Josh Bailey, Anthony Beauvillier, Noah Dobson, and Andy Greene all had 1 assist each in that game. Mathew Barzal, Anders Lee, and Brock Nelson all had 1 goal each in that game. Palmieri led the team in shots on goal in that one with 4. Ilya Sorokin was the starting goaltender for them and he allowed 5 goals on 40 shots with 35 saves and a .875 save percentage. The Islanders made a pretty deep run into the playoffs last season before getting knocked out by the Tampa Bay Lightning who went on to win the Stanley Cup playoff. They have a very good coach that made it to the Stanley Cup finals and won it with the Washington Capitals a few years ago so they will be able to bounce back from that loss with all of the talent on their team. They are good on the power play and much better on the penalty kill which could be a huge factor in this game.
Florida Panthers Analysis
The Panthers are coming into this game with 2 points and a 1-0-0 record to start their season off. This will be their 2nd game of the season and their 2nd game of a 2 game home-stand they are on to start this regular season. They won their season opener on Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-4 in OT in a tight game that was close all night. Aleksander Barkov, Aaron Ekblad, and Carter Verhaeghe all led the team in points with 2 each in that game. Ekblad and Verhaeghe also had 2 goals each in that one while Anthony Duclair scored the other goal. Barkov led the team in assists with 2 while Gustav Forsling, Jonathan Huberdeau, Owen Tippett, Frank Vatrano, and MacKenzie Weegar all had 1 assist each in that one. Ekblad led the team in shots on goal with 6. Sergei Bobrovsky was the starting goaltender for them and he allowed 4 goals on 47 shots with 43 saves and a .915 save percentage. The Panthers have a lot of talent on their side and have been a good regular season team recently and they are already off to a good start this season.
Islanders vs Panthers Prediction
The Panthers are coming into this game as a slight favorite. They must have exhausted a lot of energy in that OT win against the Penguins. They always seem to play well against the Penguins but the Islanders are coming off of a bad loss by 3 goals and really let the game get away from them in the 3rd period. Barry Trotz is a coach who is big on defense and he will not let those 6 goals slide. Expect the Islanders to make some adjustments and play much better on defense in this game looking for a bounceback win. They have more talent on their side of the two rosters. The best bet to place in this game is on the Islanders to be the winners in an upset as they have the talent and the coach to turn things around here and play much better in this game than they did in their last.
Islanders Panthers Prediction: Our NHL Pick for Saturday, October 16, 2021 (6:00 pm ET start time) is Islanders 2 Panthers 0.

Players to Watch
New York Islanders: Kyle Palmieri is one player to watch in this matchup. He leads his team in points and in assists after their first game of the season and he was the one who set up a few of their goals in that loss. Look for him to keep setting up plays and help his team put the puck in the back of the net to get the win in this one.
Florida Panthers: Aaron Ekblad is one scorer to watch in this contest. He leads his team in goals scored this season and he is one of the reasons why they were able to elevate themselves past the Penguins in their last game. Look for him to have another good game and try to find the back of the net again.
“We seemed to have had some difficulty with them and just finding plays. I didn’t feel like we could make that second play. We were kind of getting in the zone and it was the next play we couldn’t make.” - Mathew Barzal after their loss to the Hurricanes in their last game.
“Crazy beginning to the season. But certainly, the outcome was what we're looking for." - Joel Quenneville on his team’s first game of the season.
