New York Giants vs Tennessee Titans Preview and Analysis

The Giants are playing their season opener here on Sunday and this will also be their first road game of the NFL season. They finished last season with a 4-13 record overall and were 1-8 in their road games. They were also 1-5 in their division games and finished 4th place in the NFC East. They ended their season with a 22-7 loss against the Washington Football Team and did not make it to the playoffs. Their offense was averaging 287.3 YPG and 15.2 PPG while their defense was allowing 354.8 YPG and 24.5 PPG against them. Daniel Jones led the team in passing with 2,428 passing yards only playing in 11 games of the season, Saquon Barkley and Devontae Booker both led the team in rushing with 593 rushing yards each, and Kenny Golladay led the team in receiving with 521 receiving yards. They have kept a lot of their starters for this season but did a complete overhaul of the front office as they hired a new head coach and new general manager.

The Titans are playing their season opener here on Sunday and this will also be their first home game on the NFL schedule this season. They finished last season with a 12-5 record overall and were 7-2 in their home games. They were also 5-1 against division opponents and finished in 1st place in the AFC South. They ended their season with a 19-16 loss against the Cincinnati Bengals in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Their offense was averaging 342.5 YPG and 24.6 PPG while their defense was allowing 329.8 YPG and 20.8 PPG against them. Ryan Tannehill led the team in passing with 3,734 passing yards playing in all 17 games of the season, Derrick Henry led the team in rushing with 937 rushing yards, and A.J. Brown led the team in receiving with 869 receiving yards. They ended up trading away WR A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles but drafted some young players to take over at the position, hoping for a breakout season from some of them.

Giants vs Titans Prediction

The current betting odds have the Titans listed as a 5.5 point favorite in this game according to Draftkings Sportsbook. The Titans are coming off of a great 12-5 season where they went all the way to the Divisional Round in the playoffs, losing to the Bengals who went on to the Super Bowl. They won their division last year and with a similarly weak division this season, they will be looking to make that happen again. They did lose their top wide receiver in A.J. Brown but they have a lot of young talent at that position and some of those players could end up having a breakout year. They still have their starting running back in Derrick Henry who is looking to come back stronger after getting injured last season, and they still have their starting QB Ryan Tannehill who is not exceptionally great but has been doing enough down there to get the job done for the Titans. The Giants are coming off a terrible season where they finished 4-13 but instead of making some much needed improvements to the players on the team, they fired their head coach and GM leaving them in another situation where they are starting over with a new coach which they have been doing almost every year for the last 5 years now. They did not make any changes to their RBs or WRs and are going to stick with the guys who have been underperforming and dealing with injuries for years now, also having to learn a new system. They are also keeping starting QB Daniel Jones who has shown nothing over the last few seasons and they could really use an upgrade there. The Titans are a much better team on both sides of the ball and this is going to be another rough year for the Giants. The best way to place a bet here is on the Titans to cover the spread.

Notable Quotes

“The situation that we’re in we’ll probably have to restructure something (a player contract) here going into next week. That’s something we’ll do. We’re still working through a couple different scenarios. We’ll get where we need to get where we can get through the season. The situation is the situation. It’s the hand we were dealt and we’re going to do the best we can with what we have.” - Joe Schoen on cleaning up the team’s salary cap before the season starts.

"He needs to try to throw the ball when guys are open, be more decisive. So we'll evaluate that and see if there's a timing issue." - Mike Vrabel on Malik Willis after his preseason debut.
