Giants - Chiefs preview and analysis

Last week
Giants: won 25-3 vs. Panthers
Chiefs: lost 27-3 at Titans

There's no way that the Kansas City Chiefs blow this, right?

They're not that dysfunctional and incapable of playing a decent offensive game against the New York Giants, on this Monday Night Football matchup, right?

There's just no way, and I will stand on this perch until further notice.

Kansas City has to get this thing rolling at some point. And if there was a better time for it, back home against a Giants team that continues to figure out what it actually is.

And to be fair, with the way the Chiefs' season has gone, they might need to be figuring out what that team actually is off consecutive Super Bowl appearances. In perhaps the most shocking game of this season, the Chiefs were held to just three points in a 24-point loss on the road to the Tennessee Titans.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw yet another interception last week, giving him a league-high nine on the season, in a day where he threw for 206 yards and not a single touchdown.

"It was a disappointing day and disappointing way it ended," Mahomes said, who was in concussion protocol during the game.

And that's been the way the Chiefs' season has been navigated. Disappointing might not even be a strong enough term through this seven-game stretch. The Kansas City defense was already a known problem, having allowed 27 points or more in four of the last five games.

But to see Mahomes and that offense struggle this heavily near the midway point of the season is really confusing. The fact that we're talking about the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers atop the AFC West while the Chiefs are battling below .500 and tied with the Denver Broncos. There's plenty of time to go, but it's still weird.

Yet if there was a week to get back on track, it's against a Giants team that shocked most by dominating the Carolina Panthers by 22 points on Sunday.

But we need to pump the brakes here. QB Daniel Jones was still not great and continues to be the quarterback of the future. He might be the receiver of the future after hauling in a one-handed 16-yard reception, but a 203-yard day against a Carolina team that has fallen off a cliff is not great right now.

"Yeah, I think that's an important win for us," Jones said. "You know, we've had some tough games and some close games, but you know, we believe in who we are as a team, and what we're doing as a team and where we're going."

The Giants are still hovering below 20 points per game and continue to navigate without Kenny Golladay and Saquon Barkley, but even when they were in the games, it was horrible. The Giants defense has given up almost 26 points per game, which seems like the perfect way for the Chiefs to fire back on all cylinders.

Prediction

Even if it's one week, the Chiefs need to find wins any way they can get. The top teams, they've had trouble with. Just look at the Buffalo Bills, Chargers and Titans. But look at the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Football Team to see they're not the worst of the bunch. Kansas City with the victory. Chiefs by 17
